Director, Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) –

Commercial Excellence I Life Sciences

Location: Bangalore, India (Hybrid)

Role Overview

This is a senior P&L leadership role. As Director – GEO (Commercial Excellence), you will build and lead Indegene's Generative Engine Optimization practice — owning end-to-end responsibility across capability building, team development, client delivery, revenue growth, and go-to-market solutioning. You will define how Indegene and its life sciences clients achieve discoverability, authority, and trust in an AI-first search world spanning ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Bing Copilot, and emerging LLM-based platforms.

You will operate at the intersection of AI, digital search, regulated content strategy, and pharma commercial excellence — with the mandate to build a world-class GEO practice that becomes a material contributor to Indegene's digital services revenue.

Key Responsibilities

Practice Leadership

  • Own the GEO practice P&L — drive revenue targets, gross margin, and practice profitability in alignment with business goals.
  • Develop and execute the practice's annual operating plan including headcount strategy, investment priorities, and revenue pipeline.
  • Lead commercial conversations and solution design for GEO-led engagements across Indegene's pharma and medtech client portfolio.
  • Accountable for delivery quality, client satisfaction, and renewal/upsell across all active GEO mandates.

Go-to-Market (GTM) Solutioning

  • Architect Indegene's GEO GTM proposition — define service offerings, pricing models, and competitive differentiation for the market.
  • Partner with sales, account management, and marketing teams to drive new business development and pipeline through GEO-led solutions.
  • Lead proposal responses, capability presentations, and solution workshops for prospective and existing clients at senior stakeholder levels.
  • Develop thought leadership positioning — white papers, conference presentations, and POVs — that establish Indegene as the authority in life sciences GEO.

Capability Building & Center of Excellence

  • Establish and scale a GEO Center of Excellence (CoE) — defining methodologies, playbooks, tool stack, and quality benchmarks.
  • Build proprietary GEO frameworks for the life sciences context: entity optimization, LLM content attribution, structured data strategies, and E-E-A-T authority models.
  • Drive continuous innovation by tracking the rapidly evolving LLM search landscape and translating insights into Indegene's service evolution.
  • Integrate GEO capability with Indegene's broader digital services — content, omnichannel, data, and technology — to create integrated offerings.
  • Act as the senior capability voice in high-stakes client conversations — from first pitch to active account steering committees, across pharma brand, digital, and medical leadership audiences

Team Leadership & Talent Development

  • Recruit, lead, and mentor a high-performing GEO & SEO team of content strategists, technical SEO specialists, data analysts, and AI practitioners.
  • Set clear goals, career development paths, and performance frameworks for the team; build a culture of accountability, learning, and innovation.
  • Drive hiring plans in alignment with business growth; build bench strength ahead of demand.
  • Foster knowledge-sharing, certification programs, and upskilling initiatives across the broader digital community at Indegene.

Client Delivery & Digital Transformation

  • Shape & oversee end-to-end delivery of GEO engagements across the client portfolio — scoping the right construct, defending the approach, and translating technical recommendations into commercial outcomes clients can act on (from discovery and strategy to execution, measurement, and optimization)
  • Guide clients through AI-first content transformation: restructuring content supply chains, governance models, and publishing workflows for LLM discoverability.
  • Navigate MLR/MedLegal processes with confidence, ensuring all strategies meet regulatory requirements while maximizing search and AI performance.
  • Lead senior client relationships (C-suite, VP level) with executive presence, strategic storytelling, and outcome-driven account management.

GEO Evolution

  • Lead Indegene's migration toward a GEO-first paradigm — evolving measurement, tooling, and talent accordingly.
  • Define and monitor next-generation performance metrics: AI citation rate, LLM content coverage, entity authority score, and AI share of voice.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

  • MBA from a premier institution — IIMs, ISB, XLRI, SPJIMR, MDI, or equivalent top-tier global business school. Strongly preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Life Sciences, Pharmacy, or a related discipline.
  • Certifications in Digital Marketing, SEO/GEO, AI/ML, or Analytics (Google, BrightEdge, Moz, HubSpot) are an advantage.

Experience Profile

  • 11+ years of progressive experience in digital strategy and transformation (SEO, digital strategy, content strategy, digital marketing) — with at least 5+ years in leadership roles of a search or visibility practice.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of demonstrated hands-on experience in GEO, LLM content strategy, or AI-driven search optimization.
  • Strong command of how search visibility was built in the pre-LLM era, because the fundamentals still apply
  • Proven track record of building and scaling digital practices or teams in a consulting, services, or technology company.
  • Experience owning revenue targets and client P&Ls at the Director level or equivalent.
  • Client-facing credibility at the senior level — comfortable in a room with pharma brand, digital, or medical leadership, able to hold a capability-level conversation without leaning on the delivery team
  • Ability to operate in a matrixed commercial environment, working across capability leads, account teams, and senior leadership

Life Sciences Domain (Must Have)

  • Deep, demonstrated expertise in the life sciences digital ecosystem — pharma, biotech, medtech, or healthcare services.
  • Strong familiarity with HCP engagement, DTC marketing, omnichannel pharma strategy, and MLR/MedLegal review processes.
  • Understanding of pharma commercial excellence, therapy area brand strategy, regulatory frameworks (FDA, EMA, CDSCO), and patient/HCP journey design.

Technical & Functional Skills

  • Entity optimization, Schema.org structured data, knowledge graph integration, LLM content attribution, prompt-influenced content architecture. GEO & AI Search:
  • Technical SEO, semantic SEO, E-E-A-T, Core Web Vitals, content architecture, international SEO at enterprise scale. SEO:
  • SEMrush, Profound, Ahrefs, BrightEdge, Conductor, Screaming Frog, Google Analytics 4, Search Console, Looker Studio. Tools:
  • Working knowledge of ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews, Bing Copilot, and Claude for content testing and GEO monitoring. AI Platforms:
  • P&L management, team building, GTM solutioning, executive stakeholder management, and client advisory at senior levels.
