The Research Associate will work closely with Portfolio Managers and Research Analysts to conduct deep-dive research on potential investment opportunities. The candidate will support industry/stock analyses, financial modelling, primary research, and monitoring of companies and sectors to feed ideas into the investment process.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform industry analysis: assess key trends, competitive strategies of major players, market structure, growth drivers and risks.
- Benchmark operational & financial performance metrics of major industry players (e.g., margins, growth rates, asset turns, returns).
- Conduct detailed financial-statement analyses and valuation work: build and maintain financial models (income statements / balance sheets / cash flows), compute valuation (DCF, multiples, residual income, etc.).
- Monitor continuously: track news flow, business-model changes, quarterly/annual results of companies under coverage and their peers/suppliers/customers.
- Conduct primary research: meet with companies, competitors, suppliers, customers; listen to quarterly conference calls; prepare summary meeting/call notes.
- Produce research deliverables: draft write-ups, investment memos, note key findings and investment implications for the team.
- Assist in the preparation of presentations/reports for internal investment discussions and for the portfolio team.
- Work with senior team members to identify new ideas, update models and databases, maintain coverage universe.
- Stay abreast of macro-economic, regulatory and sector developments which may impact company/industry dynamics.
Qualifications & Skills
- CA with a graduate degree in Economics, Accounts, Business, or Mathematics (or equivalent).
- 13 years of relevant experience in equity research or related field; CFA Level 1 (or prepared) will be an advantage.
- Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to dig into data, ask the right questions, form logical investment insights.
- Strong written and spoken communication skills; ability to clearly articulate research findings and investment theses.
- Demonstrated keen interest in equity markets and investments, with good understanding of company financials.
- Excellent modelling capabilities with MS Excel and strong comfort with numbers/financial statements.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, with good time-management skills.
- A self-starter, curious / proactive, with attention to detail and willingness to learn.
