Job Description

Role Overview

The Academic Counsellor is responsible for guiding students throughout their academic journeyfrom understanding their goals and recommending suitable programs to supporting them through admissions, learning progress, and career planning. The role requires excellent communication, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to build trust with students and parents.

Key ResponsibilitiesStudent Guidance & Counselling
  • Understand students academic background, interests, and career aspirations.
  • Provide personalized counselling on suitable courses, programs, and learning paths.
  • Guide students on admission criteria, processes, and program outcomes.
  • Address academic concerns, doubts, and queries in a timely and professional manner.
Admissions Support
  • Assist students in completing the application and enrollment process.
  • Follow up with prospective students to ensure admissions closure.
  • Conduct orientation sessions for newly enrolled students.
Academic Support
  • Monitor students academic progress and performance.
  • Identify students needing support and offer interventions or study plans.
  • Coordinate with faculty and academic teams to track and resolve academic issues.
Communication & Relationship Management
  • Maintain regular communication with students through calls, emails, or meetings.
  • Build long-term relationships to ensure retention and student satisfaction.
  • Address complaints and provide solutions professionally.
Documentation & Reporting
  • Maintain records of student interactions, progress, and feedback.
  • Prepare weekly or monthly reports on admissions, counselling sessions, and student performance.
  • Ensure compliance with institutional policies and academic standards.
Required Skills & Competencies
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong counselling and problem-solving abilities
  • Good knowledge of academic programs and career trends
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and manage student queries
  • Basic technical skills (MS Office, CRM tools)
  • Patience, empathy, and student-centric mindset
Eligibility / Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree (any field; education background preferred)
  • Prior experience in academic counselling, customer service, or student engagement is an advantage
