Social Media Manager – Sports
About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Social Media Manager with 3–4 years of experience to manage and grow our cricket / sports content pages across social media platforms.
This role requires someone who understands cricket, social media behaviour, content formats, platform algorithms, analytics and the pace of sports media. The person will work closely with the content, creative, video and editorial teams to plan the content calendar, manage daily posting, ensure quality checks before publishing, track performance and build structured reports for the team.
The ideal candidate should be comfortable working in a fast-moving environment where content needs to be planned in advance but also adapted quickly around breaking news, matches, trends and fan conversations.
Key Responsibilities
Content Planning & Calendar Ownership
- Plan, own and maintain the monthly, weekly and daily content calendar across social media platforms.
- Work closely with the content, creative, video and editorial teams to plan content around matches, tournaments, player milestones, breaking news, fan moments and topical trends.
- Ensure the calendar has the right mix of formats, including reels, shorts, videos, statics, carousels, polls, stories, live-match content, memes, explainers, news-led posts and community-led content.
- Track upcoming cricket schedules, tournaments, player news, anniversaries, trends and platform moments to ensure content opportunities are not missed.
- Coordinate with internal teams to ensure creatives, captions, edits, thumbnails and publishing assets are ready on time.
- Maintain discipline around deadlines, approvals and publishing schedules.
Publishing & Platform Management
- Manage day-to-day posting and publishing across social media platforms.
- Ensure every post is platform-optimised in terms of format, caption, hashtags, tags, thumbnails, titles, descriptions, links and publishing time.
- Maintain consistency in brand voice, tone, visual quality and content hygiene across all pages.
- Conduct pre-publishing checks for factual accuracy, spelling, design quality, caption quality, brand safety, copyright sensitivity and platform suitability.
- Manage real-time posting around live matches, breaking news, toss updates, score moments, wickets, milestones and post-match reactions.
- Adapt content differently for each platform instead of simply copy-pasting the same asset everywhere.
- Coordinate with the video team for reels, shorts, match reactions, podcast clips, explainers and other short-form video formats.
Cricket & Trend Awareness
- Stay updated with cricket news, Indian cricket, global cricket, leagues, player developments, controversies, fan conversations and social media trends.
- Identify real-time content opportunities from matches, news, memes, viral conversations and platform trends.
- Understand what cricket fans are reacting to and convert those moments into timely social content.
- Track competitor pages such as ESPNcricinfo, Cricbuzz, Sportskeeda and other major cricket creators / publishers to identify content patterns, formats and opportunities.
- Bring fresh content ideas to the team based on what is working across the cricket and sports media ecosystem.
Analytics & Reporting
- Track performance across social media platforms on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
- Understand and report key metrics such as reach, impressions, engagement, engagement rate, followers gained / lost, video views, watch time, retention, shares, saves, link clicks and audience growth.
- Prepare structured weekly and monthly social media reports for internal review.
- Identify what worked, what did not work and what should be changed in the next content cycle.
- Use analytics to recommend changes in formats, posting times, captions, content themes and platform strategy.
- Track growth against targets across pages and platforms.
- Maintain performance trackers and reporting dashboards where required.
Social Media Tools & Workflow Management
- Be well versed with social media management, scheduling, analytics and reporting tools.
- Use platform-native tools such as Meta Business Suite, YouTube Studio, X Analytics and Instagram Insights.
- Familiarity with social media management tools
- Maintain organised trackers for content calendar, publishing status, approvals, performance and learnings.
- Help improve the team's social media workflows, publishing discipline and reporting systems.
Team Coordination
- Work closely with writers, designers, video editors, anchors, producers and strategy teams.
- Brief designers and video editors clearly on required formats, references, captions and deadlines.
- Follow up with team members to ensure planned content is delivered on time.
- Coordinate during live coverage days and high-pressure match windows.
- Support special campaigns, branded content, collaborations, tournament plans and platform-specific growth initiatives.
- Maintain good communication and ownership across the content pipeline.
Requirements
