Role Title – Senior Rental Condition Monitoring Manager
Location: Chennai, India
Role Definition
The
Senior Rental Condition Monitoring Manager is responsible for
establishing, scaling, and leading Caterpillar's global Rental Monitoring Center, launching in
Chennai to support North America in 2026 and expanding to
global dealer support in 2027.
This role directs all activities, leaders, and teams delivering
rental condition monitoring services, including machine health monitoring, predictive insights, maintenance recommendations, and value realization across uptime, operating cost, and resale value.
As a
leader‑of‑leaders, the role builds and develops a multi‑layer organization—approximately
50+ employees in 2026, expanding to
130+ employees in 2027—while defining the vision, operating model, metrics, and technology roadmap for a scalable, AI‑enabled service.
Key Responsibilities
Organizational Leadership & Capability Build
- Lead the end‑to‑end stand‑up of the Rental Monitoring Center, including operating model, governance, staffing, and workflows.
- Direct and develop a leadership team of four leaders in 2026, each managing 8–13 Rental Monitoring Analysts (RMAs).
- Establish a culture of technical excellence, accountability, customer focus, and continuous improvement.
- Create and manage the monitoring infrastructure to ensure readiness, scalability, and consistent quality delivery.
Recruiting, Onboarding & Talent Development
- Own recruitment, onboarding, and ramp‑up of the full RMC organization in partnership with CI Condition Monitoring and HR.
- Leverage existing CI condition monitoring resources and training consultants to accelerate readiness.
- Develop and deliver structured training programs for both RMC teams and dealers.
Service Design, Scope & Delivery
- Define and continuously refine the scope of Rental Monitoring services as dealer needs and regional strategies evolve.
- Standardize high‑quality monitoring outputs, including health insights, prioritized recommendations, and avoided‑cost narratives.
- Document and institutionalize best practices, operating procedures, and quality standards.
Dealer Onboarding & Experience
- Lead dealer onboarding one dealer at a time, ensuring a premium experience from service introduction through steady‑state delivery.
- Partner with Distribution Services to drive high execution rates (80%) on generated recommendations.
- Quantify and communicate rental operating and maintenance cost savings, uptime improvements, and contribution to resale value.
Business Management & Commercial Alignment
- Establish accounting distribution and subscription fee recovery mechanisms in partnership with Cat Digital.
- Monitor receivables through central accounting and ensure financial discipline.
- Partner with Rental Marketing to execute a go‑to‑market strategy supporting 30K machines by end‑2026 and 100K machines in 2027.
- Drive development of work plans, budgets, schedules, and performance criteria for services, projects, and personnel.
AI, Digital & Technology Leadership
- Lead the integration of Artificial Intelligence to improve efficiency, scale, and consistency in recommendation generation.
- Partner with Cat Digital to influence Cat Foresight and future tools, balancing automation with human expertise.
- Drive AI adoption across search, correlation, prioritization, and publishing, with strong emphasis on accuracy and trust.
Data Analytics & Reporting
- Leverage Rental and CI analytics teams to establish standard KPIs, dashboards, and reporting cadence.
- Deliver monthly and quarterly performance reporting on recommendation quality, participation, avoided costs, and business impact.
- Over time, analyze failure patterns and component trends and provide feedback to Product Groups, Rental & Used BUs, Distribution Services, and Dealers to improve products and services.
Strategic Partnerships
- Partner closely with Distribution Services, Rental, and Used teams to align execution, resourcing, and dealer engagement.
- Ensure services support customer‑backed outcomes, rental revenue models, and commercial strategy.
Skills Needed
- Customer Focus: Consistently places customer and dealer outcomes at the center of decisions.
- Leadership experience : Given this is a leader of leader roles, prior demonstrated leadership experience (2-3 years) is a must.
- Data Gathering & Analysis: Synthesizes machine, operational, and financial data into actionable insights.
- Service Excellence: Delivers reliable, scalable, high‑quality services.
- Consulting: Provides strategic and technical guidance to internal and external stakeholders.
- Decision Making & Critical Thinking: Makes sound, timely decisions using structured judgment.
- Effective Communications: Communicates clearly across technical, commercial, and executive audiences.
- Problem Solving: Anticipates and resolves operational and organizational challenges.
- Relationship Management: Builds strong partnerships across dealers, digital teams, and enterprise stakeholders.
Skills Preferred
- Rental and Used Business Model : Prior leadership experience in the Rental and Used operations in a regional or global role is highly desirable.
