Hitachi Energy is seeking a Senior Project Engineer – Protection & Control to support the design, engineering, and execution of complex substation projects. This role plays a key part in translating project requirements into engineered solutions by driving design development, documentation, customer alignment, and execution support through manufacturing, testing, and commissioning phases.
The position requires strong technical depth in protection, control, and substation automation systems, combined with the ability to work independently on complex engineering challenges while coordinating with multiple stakeholders. The role offers exposure to high‑voltage projects up to 765 kV, customer interactions, and cross‑functional project execution across India.
How You'll Make An Impact
- Lead project engineering activities including design development, engineering documentation, and technical coordination to ensure successful project execution.
- Prepare and submit General Arrangement drawings, schematic diagrams, and Bills of Materials in line with project schedules and customer requirements.
- Coordinate technical discussions with customers, address comments, and secure timely approvals for engineering documents.
- Ensure on‑time release of approved drawings and documents for Manufacturing and Supply Chain execution.
- Work closely with Project Management and Customers during FAT and SAT activities to support testing, issue resolution, and acceptance.
- Execute design and engineering activities in alignment with the Quality Management System (QMS) and internal engineering standards.
- Design and engineer Protection and Control panels for substations up to 765 kV, including conventional and numerical protection schemes.
- Apply strong technical knowledge of two‑main transfer schemes and breaker‑and‑a‑half schemes.
- Engineer and implement protection solutions using numerical relays for transformer differential, distance, line differential, generator, busbar, overcurrent and earth fault protection, along with bay control units (BCUs).
- Design Substation Automation Systems (SAS) including system architecture, Functional Design Specifications (FDS), IO lists, SAS panel drawings, and integration documentation.
- Prepare and release manufacturing documents such as wiring schedules, label lists, and cut‑out details.
- Coordinate with Project Management, Supply Chain Management, and Customers to ensure timely delivery of panels and systems as per project milestones.
- Support issue resolution during execution to minimize delays and ensure project performance.
- Willingness to travel across India for project, FAT, SAT, and customer coordination needs.
- Responsible to ensure compliance with applicable external and internal regulations, procedures, and guidelines.

Your Background
- Bachelor's degree in electrical or Electronics Engineering.
- Senior‑level engineering experience in Protection & Control and Substation Projects within the power or transmission domain.
- Strong hands‑on experience in design and engineering of protection and control panels up to 765 kV.
- Proven experience working with numerical protection relays and modern substation automation systems.
- Proficiency in preparing GA drawings, schematic drawings, wiring schedules, and engineering documentation.
- Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, E3, and MS Office tools.
- Experience coordinating with customers, project management, and manufacturing teams.
- Ability to work independently on complex engineering tasks and mentor junior engineers as required.
- Proficiency in both spoken & written English language is required
