Job Description

Location - Remote/Hybrid

Duration - 2 months

Stipend - 8k-20k

We're building a platform where people don't just read content; they engage with it, question it, and build layered understanding together. From business to strategy and tech, Philonet turns passive reading into active, high-quality discourse. As an early-stage product, we are focused on building tight growth loops, strong community density, and deep user retention.

The early community is already drawing professionals from top companies like McKinsey, Bain, Microsoft, Google and students from premier colleges like IIM-A, LSE, XLRI, IIM-C. Now it needs to grow - carefully, without losing what makes it worth being on.

That's where you come in.

Role

You'll work directly with the founders on the product experience - from the moment a user lands on Philonet to the moment they've posted their most thoughtful comment ever. Your north star is craft: interactions that feel inevitable, flows that feel designed by someone who actually cares, and details that most apps ship broken.

We believe great product UX earns retention through the experience itself - not through notifications, streaks, or dark patterns. Every screen should feel considered. Every interaction should respect the user's intelligence. If that's the standard you hold products to, we need to talk.

What you will do

  • Own end-to-end UX flows for 12 core product areas - from problem framing to shipped feature.
  • Map friction in the current Android and web experience and come with opinionated fixes, not just observations.
  • Write detailed product specs that include interaction states, edge cases, and micro-copy - not just happy paths.
  • Work closely with the founders on our reading gate mechanics, comment UX, and social features - things that define how the platform feels.
  • Run lightweight user research: conversations, session recordings, behavioral data. Turn signals into decisions.
  • Create wireframes, prototypes, or annotated mocks - whatever it takes to communicate an idea crisply before it gets built.
  • Obsess over onboarding. First-session experience is everything for us right now.

What we're looking for

  • Someone who notices bad UX and can't let it go.
  • A builder - side project, app, Figma concept, anything you've shipped or tried to ship.
  • Opinionated about product but not precious about your opinions.
  • Someone who reads - and cares about the quality of ideas in conversation.
  • Interested in starting something eventually (this is our kind of person).

You might have

  • Familiarity with Figma, Maze, or similar tools.
  • Experience with consumer apps - ideally social, content, or edtech.
  • Light data literacy: SQL or analytics tools don't scare you.
  • A portfolio, even if informal - screenshots, a case study, a teardown.
  • Studied design, CS, business, or something completely different.
