Job Description

Responsibilities:

  • Mainframe Network Management: Oversee the installation, upgrade, and maintenance of VTAM, TCP/IP, OSA, and related products on mainframe systems.
  • Software Acquisition & Support: Lead the acquisition, installation, configuration, customization, and support of IBM and ISV network software, including:
  • z/OS Communications Server, i.e., VTAM TCP/IP
  • Network management software (includes NetView and NPM)
  • File transfer software (includes TCP/IP FTP, Netview FTP and Connect:Direct)
  • Session Management software (includes CA-TPX, CA-Solve Access and Candle SuperSession)
  • Printing software (includes InfoPrint server and LRS VPS)
  • NCP and NPSI/X25
  • Project Management & Implementation: Manage and implement network software upgrades, including close liaison for testing and implementation with client network service providers, client application teams, and other IBM teams (e.g., during z/OS operating system upgrades).
  • Change & Problem Management: Oversee and execute Change and Problem Management processes. Manage and implement network definition changes based on customer requests.
  • Problem Diagnosis & Resolution: Lead problem diagnosis and resolution efforts, including monitoring problem queues, liaising with client network service providers, client technical support teams, client application teams, end users, and the IBM support center. Apply configuration changes, software maintenance, or other corrective actions, and monitor/apply preventative maintenance.
  • Meetings & Collaboration: Attend weekly problem meetings, weekly change meetings, and ad hoc crisis review meetings (with customer, service management, and other areas).
  • Network Hardware Management: Specify and configure mainframe Open Systems Adapters, including liaising with client network service providers over connections to LAN/WAN. Configure Network Communications Controller hardware (various 3745 models) and liaise with client network service providers over wide-area network connections.
  • Performance Monitoring & Tuning: Conduct network performance monitoring and tuning.
  • Disaster Recovery: Lead Disaster Recovery planning and execution of tests, including ensuring client access to DR systems during production network service.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain comprehensive network documentation.
  • Strategic Advice: Provide strategic advice for both IBM and customer-run projects (e.g., mainframe processor upgrades, TCP/IP network hardware infrastructure refresh, 3745 replacement, Enterprise Extender rollout).
  • Software Evaluation: Evaluate network software to ensure appropriate support for production services, including functional comparisons, compatibility with existing software base, and supportability/operation.
  • In-house Software Support: Provide support and consultancy for IBM-owned in-house written network/user access software.
  • Product Education: Provide product information, education, and presentations on network software (IBM and ISV) for clients.
  • Compliance & Security: Ensure the mainframe network environment complies with security rules agreed upon by IBM and the client.
  • Health Checks & Issue Resolution: Perform account health checking for supported products (e.g., Netview FTP and Connect Direct). Resolve Cirats Issues related to mainframe Network across supported accounts.

Required Skills:

  • Strong knowledge in SMPE.
  • Strong Networking knowledge.
  • Proficiency in Printers configuration, FTP, SMTP, SNMP configurations.
  • Ability to interface with operations.
  • Proficiency with network management software (includes NetView and NPM).
  • Proficiency with file transfer software (includes TCP/IP FTP, Netview FTP and Connect:Direct).
  • Proficiency with Session Management software (includes CA-TPX, CA-Solve Access and Candle SuperSession).
  • Proficiency with printing software (includes InfoPrint server and LRS VPS).
  • Knowledge of NCP and NPSI/X25.

  • Skills in network software evaluation for production services.
  • Ability to provide support and consultancy for in-house network/user access software.
  • Ability to provide product information, education, and presentations on network software.
  • Strong understanding of compliance and security rules for mainframe network environments.
  • Ability to perform account Health checking and resolve integrity issues related to mainframe network.
