The MPGS Database Service Delivery team is looking for a highly skilled engineer to support the deployment, management, and automation of database environments across Mastercard's global payment solutions. This role involves administering production, pre-production, UAT, and development environments, while promoting best practices and driving database automation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Administer and maintain database environments including production, UAT, and development systems.
- Lead the design and implementation of robust, scalable, and secure database architectures.
- Implement and enforce database security standards and best practices.
- Drive automation efforts to reduce manual tasks and improve deployment consistency.
- Perform database performance tuning, backup, and recovery.
- Monitor and troubleshoot issues related to locks, waits, replication, and performance.
- Provide mentorship and technical guidance to other engineers.
- Collaborate with global, cross-functional teams on database solutions and initiatives.
- Align database engineering practices with business strategies and objectives.
- Participate in database capacity planning and high availability strategies.
- Implement proactive monitoring systems to detect and resolve issues before they impact users.
- Evaluate and improve replication strategies using Oracle GoldenGate, DataGuard, and PostgreSQL xDB.
Education (Preferred):
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or equivalent work experience.
Knowledge and Experience (Preferred):
- Expert-level knowledge of database installation, instance creation, space management, and recovery.
- Advanced experience in Oracle and PostgreSQL administration (Required).
- Experience with NoSQL databases (Preferred).
- Strong understanding of database internals, SQL tuning, and troubleshooting complex issues.
- Proficient in Oracle replication technologies including GoldenGate and DataGuard.
- Strong experience with PostgreSQL patching, upgrades, replication (physical/logical), and performance tuning.
- Understanding of xDB replication, including configuration and troubleshooting.
- Expertise in high availability architectures such as Oracle RAC.
- Familiar with partitioning and sharding implementation and design.
- Deep knowledge of backup and recovery strategies for Oracle and PostgreSQL.
- Skilled in logical and physical data modeling for both structured and unstructured data.
- Demonstrated leadership in cross-functional project teams and architectural planning.
- Strategic understanding of how database engineering supports business processes.
