Database Engineering (DBE) supports Mastercard's Business Systems and Operations globally. As part of Technology Operations, DBE drives best practices, governance, and standards in database engineering. As a Lead Engineer within the Processing Service Delivery team, you will be responsible for deploying and managing a variety of database technologies across test and production environments for Mastercard's global products.
Education (Preferred):
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems or equivalent experience.
Knowledge and Experience (Preferred):
- Expert-level knowledge in database management including:
- Installation and creation of new instances
- Space management and database reorganization
- Backup, recovery, and replication
- Performance monitoring, bottleneck identification (locks, waits), and internals
- Expert-level experience with RDBMS:
- Oracle and PostgreSQL (Required)
- NoSQL databases (Preferred), with relevant certifications
- Deep understanding of database security standards and implementation best practices
- Advanced hands-on experience in:
- Database tuning and complex issue resolution
- Oracle replication (GoldenGate, DataGuard)
- Oracle internals, database tuning, and SQL tuning
- PostgreSQL administration, patching, upgrades, tuning, and both physical and logical replication
- xDB replication setup and troubleshooting (advantageous)
- Expertise in Oracle and PostgreSQL backup and recovery strategies
- Experience in implementing partitioning and sharding solutions
- Deep knowledge of high availability (HA) architectures:
- Oracle RAC installations and administration
- Broad experience across multiple database technologies is ideal
- Advanced understanding of:
- Logical and physical data models for structured and unstructured data
- Designing and implementing complex data solutions
- Proven strategic alignment of database engineering efforts with business goals
- Experience leading cross-functional teams in:
- Estimation, application design, implementation strategies
- Providing technical leadership and mentorship
- Ability to implement proactive database monitoring to ensure optimal performance
