Key Responsibilities:
Water and Wastewater System Design:
- Design water supply and distribution systems, including pipelines, pumps, treatment facilities, and storage reservoirs.
- Design wastewater collection, treatment, and disposal systems, including sewage treatment plants, pumping stations, and sewer networks.
- Prepare detailed engineering designs, including technical drawings, specifications, and calculations for water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate water and wastewater systems with other civil, mechanical, and electrical systems.
Regulatory Compliance and Standards:
- Ensure that water and wastewater designs comply with local, state, and federal regulations, as well as industry standards (e.g., AWWA, EPA, or ISO standards).
- Stay up-to-date with regulatory changes and industry best practices related to water and wastewater systems.
- Conduct risk assessments and environmental impact assessments (EIA) for water and wastewater projects, ensuring sustainability and minimal environmental impact.
Project Management and Coordination:
- Lead or support the management of water and wastewater infrastructure projects, ensuring that the designs meet client requirements and timelines.
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, and stakeholders to gather project requirements, provide progress updates, and resolve technical issues.
- Prepare technical reports, proposals, and cost estimates for projects related to water and wastewater systems.
- Review and approve design documents and ensure that projects are completed in accordance with specifications and within budget.
Hydraulic and Hydrological Analysis:
- Perform hydraulic modeling and analysis for water distribution systems, stormwater management, and wastewater networks to optimize system design and performance.
- Conduct flow analysis, pressure analysis, and system optimization for water and wastewater treatment and distribution systems.
- Analyze and design systems to ensure adequate water supply, pressure, and treatment capacity.
Sustainability and Efficiency:
- Develop solutions that optimize water use, improve treatment efficiency, and reduce waste in water and wastewater systems.
- Design systems that incorporate energy-efficient technologies, such as pump optimization, water reuse, and energy recovery.
- Advocate for sustainable practices in water management, including water conservation, stormwater management, and the reuse of treated wastewater.
Design Reviews and Quality Assurance:
- Conduct design reviews and quality checks on water and wastewater designs to ensure accuracy, compliance, and feasibility.
- Collaborate with quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) teams to implement best practices in the design process.
- Review construction documentation and ensure that designs are accurately implemented during the construction phase.
Site Visits and Construction Support:
- Conduct site visits to assess conditions, gather data, and provide support during the construction phase of water and wastewater projects.
- Offer technical guidance and support to construction teams, ensuring that designs are implemented correctly and any issues are resolved promptly.
- Assist with commissioning and start-up activities for newly constructed water and wastewater systems.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of all design activities, project reports, and communications with clients and contractors.
- Prepare and present progress reports, design drawings, technical documentation, and presentations for clients and regulatory agencies.
- Document design decisions, calculations, and analysis to ensure project continuity and knowledge sharing.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience in water and wastewater engineering, including design, planning, and project management.
Skills:
- Proficiency in design and modeling software (e.g., AutoCAD, Civil 3D, EPANET, HEC-RAS, WaterCAD).
- Strong understanding of water distribution and wastewater collection systems, treatment processes, and infrastructure design.
- Knowledge of hydraulic and hydrological analysis methods, including pressure, flow, and stormwater modeling.
- Familiarity with regulatory requirements and environmental standards related to water and wastewater systems.
- Ability to prepare technical reports, cost estimates, and project proposals.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently or as part of a team.
