Job Description

ABOUT

Agnikul Cosmos is a company incubated at IIT Madras and we build rockets that can take satellites up to 500 kg to Lower Earth Orbit (LEO). In May 2024, we successfully completed our maiden launch from our own launchpad (India's first private launchpad). The launch has proven all the new technologies developed by Agnikul and also earned recognition from Honourable Prime Minister of India.
We are looking for someone who can take complete ownership of planning and executing hardware testing activities — from creating detailed test matrices that cover all functional requirements, to ensuring tests are conducted safely and systematically.

Key Responsibilities

1. Developing and implementing comprehensive functional qualification and acceptance plans for flight hardware. Collaborate with design and quality assurance teams to integrate hardware qualification activities into the project.

2. Coordinate with designers to evaluate and ensure all pre-test preparations are complete and any identified issues are resolved. Reports on the readiness status of each subsystem highlighting any risks or areas needing further attention before proceeding with testing.

3. Find innovative ways to create, review, and optimise functional test processes/procedures to increase testing capability and rate.

4. Development and implementation of testing protocols and procedures.

5. Address day to day engineering issues during test operations

6. Monitor and manage test checklists to ensure all steps are followed accurately during testing 7. Preparation of reports of the test performed.

8. Identify, log, and track observations during the test using relevant tools.

9. Perform real-time and post-test data review to evaluate the performance of test article and test stand systems (fluid, structural, thermal, electrical)

10. Maintain comprehensive records of test results and performance metrics. Communicate observations and recommendations to relevant design teams.

11. Work to collaborate with designers to provide feedback and guidance for continuous improvement.

12. Grade the work of designers to ensure quality and compliance to standards. Collect and document reports from the designers on the justification for the observations from the test for further progress.

13. Own and manage all data generated from tests ensuring its accuracy, integrity, and proper documentation. Ensure compliance with data management and confidentiality protocols.

14. Manage team members to perform integrated testing involving all subsystems

15. Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment

16. Serve as the final authority to ensure all operations are conducted in a safe manner

Requirements

1. Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, electrical engineering, electronics and communication or any other engineering field

2. Ability to thrive in ambiguous requirements and aggressive timelines

3. High levels of personal autonomy and self-driven motivation

4. Knowledge of hazardous systems (high pressure, cryogenic, flammable)

5. High level of familiarity with instrumentation and control (Pressure transducers, thermocouples, RTDs, strain gauges, accelerometers, flowmeters, load cells, relays, solenoid valves)

6. Ability to perform effective root cause and failure analysis

7. Ability to understand plumbing and instrumentation diagrams, wiring diagrams

8. Ability to prepare operating procedures and checklist for conducting the test.

9. Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

10. Flexibility in working hours based on the test requirements. Willing to work for extended hours if necessary based on the test requirement.
