Job Description
A SharePoint Test Lead is responsible for overseeing the quality assurance of
SharePoint Online,
Microsoft 365 , and
on-premises/hybrid solutions. They lead testing teams, define strategies, and ensure SharePoint customizations (SPFx), workflows (Power Automate), and content migrations meet business requirements.
Core Roles & Responsibilities
- Test Planning & Strategy: Create comprehensive test plans (SIT/UAT) and strategies for SharePoint migration, upgrade, and feature deployment.
- Lead Testing Initiatives: Manage test execution, defect triage, and reporting. Oversee the validation of SharePoint features such as document libraries, lists, workflows, permissions, and web parts.
- Automation Leadership: Develop automated test scripts using PowerShell (PnP), Selenium, or other tools to accelerate testing efficiency.
- Customization Testing: Specifically test custom SharePoint solutions developed using SPFx, React JS, or Third-party tools.
- Migration Validation: Lead validation efforts for moving data from on-premises to SharePoint Online, ensuring content integrity and metadata mapping.
- Mentorship: Guide junior testers and coordinate with offshore/onshore teams.
- Defect Management: Identify, log, and track bugs to closure using tools like JIRA, Azure DevOps, or HP ALM.
Required Technical Skills
- SharePoint Proficiency: Strong knowledge of SharePoint Online/O365 architecture, SharePoint 2016/2019 features, and User Role Management.
- Automation/Scripting: Proficiency in PowerShell (PnP PowerShell), JavaScript/TypeScript, or SPFx development tools.
- Power Platform: Experience testing Power Apps and Power Automate workflows.
- Database Knowledge: Experience with SQL Queries for backend verification.
- Tools: Familiarity with test management tools (Azure Test Plans, Jira, ALM) and Source Control (Git).
Typical Requirements
- Experience: 5+ years of experience in Microsoft SharePoint development or testing.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field.
- Methodology: Strong experience in Agile/Scrum environments.
