This role is responsible for identifying and analysing financial, market, credit, liquidity and portfolio risk exposures for BSLAMC, and strengthening Portfolio Risk Management processes in the organisation. The role is also responsible for the development and implementation of portfolio risk control framework and undertaking periodical reviews and updates related to the framework.
Job Context/Job Challenges:
Established in 1994, Birla Sunlife Asset Management Company, (BSLAMC) is a joint venture between Aditya Birla Group and Sunlife Financial Inc., a leading international financial services company in Canada.
Currently ranked as the third largest fund Management house in India with a total Average AUM base of over INR 2 Lakh 50 Thousand Crores (as on Mar 2018). Out of the 44 fund houses in the country, BSLAMC ranked 1st in Fixed Income AUM and 3rd in Equity AUM category respectively. The company has grown its investor client base to about 5 MN and os actively engaging with the investors & partners alike.
Distribution Network: BSLAMC has a footprint in 150 locations across the country with approx 45,000 IFAs, 190 National Distributors & 85 banking partnership (points of sale). BSLAMC also has its offshore presence through its rep offices in Singapore, Dubai & Mauritius. The employees strength of BSLAMC is approx. 1800 employees (Onrolls and Associates as on Mar 2018). BSLAMC has a customer base of approx. over 5 million customers as on Mar 2018. In the emerging business category of Alternates, primarily PMS & AIF is included where ABSLAMC holds about 3-4% mkt share. This industry is however growing at over 45% CAGR, significantly higher than the overall fund industry.
BSLAMC offers investors a range of comprehensive investment options, which includes diversified and sector specific equity schemes, hybrid funds and a wide range of debt and treasury products. Its offerings also include Portfolio advisory services for High Net worth individuals as well as offshore funds for Non Resident Indians. There are 141 schemes managed by the organisation as on Mar 2018. The Company follows a long - term, fundamental research based approach to investment and thrives to provide a transparent and ethical services to its investors. Leveraging on these strengths., ABSLAMC offers PMS & AIF products on both equity & debt side. Currently the market share is in the range of 4%, however, hopes to be at 8-9% in the next 1-2 years. Towards the same, new product offering is the key.
One of the key challenges for BSLAMC has been to maintain a balance between moving with dynamic and constantly changing regulatory norms of the country and maintaining growth and profitability in the extremely competitive market.

a)Communication on the importance and impact of Portfolio Risk Management to various teams in the organization
b)Adherence to regulatory norms and mitigation of risks by striking a balance between regulatory requirements and business needs
c)Automation challenges due to availability of inconsistent data from various sources and constantly changing regulations
