Role Overview
The Taxation Consultant will be engaged on a contractual basis to provide end-to-end taxation consulting, compliance support, and advisory services to the company. The role requires strong hands-on experience in Indian taxation laws, including GST, TDS, Income Tax, and related statutory compliances, with practical exposure gained from a reputed consulting or professional services firm.
Key Responsibilities
1. Goods and Services Tax (GST)
- End-to-end GST compliance including:
- Preparation, review, and filing of GST returns (GSTR-1, GSTR-3B, GSTR-2B reconciliation, GSTR-9/9C).
- Monthly/quarterly GST reconciliations between books, returns, and portal data.
- Advisory support on GST applicability, classification, valuation, place of supply, and rate issues.
- Handling GST notices, departmental queries, audits, and assessments.
- Support in GST registrations, amendments, refunds, LUT filings, and input tax credit optimisation.
- Advising on GST implications for contracts, inter-company transactions, and new business initiatives.
2. Direct Taxation (Income Tax & TDS)
- Compliance and advisory under the Income-tax Act, 1961.
- Review and filing of TDS/TCS returns (Forms 24Q, 26Q, 27Q, etc.).
- Advisory on TDS applicability, rates, withholding mechanisms, and exemptions.
- Handling TDS reconciliations, Form 26Q/24Q corrections, and Form 16/16A issuance.
- Support in income tax computations, advance tax workings, and return filings (as applicable).
- Assistance in handling income tax notices, assessments, and correspondence with tax authorities.
3. Tax Advisory & Support
- Advising management on tax-efficient structures and transactions.
- Supporting tax positions for audits (statutory, internal, tax audits).
- Reviewing agreements, invoices, and transactions from a tax risk perspective.
- Monitoring changes in tax laws, circulars, notifications, and judicial precedents and assessing their impact on the company.
4. Compliance & Documentation
- Ensuring timely compliance with all statutory tax requirements.
- Maintaining proper tax documentation, workings, and audit trails.
- Coordinating with internal finance teams, auditors, and external consultants as required.
Engagement Expectations
- Contractor to work closely with the company's finance and accounts team.
- Engagement may be part-time / full-time / project-based depending on business requirements.
- Expected to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely delivery of taxation-related deliverables.
Requirements
Key Requirements
- Experience:
- Minimum 3–4 years of relevant experience in Indian taxation.
- Prior experience with a reputed CA firm / consulting firm / professional services firm is mandatory.
- Technical Expertise:
- Strong hands-on knowledge of GST laws, rules, and return filing.
- Good understanding of TDS provisions and Income Tax compliance.
- Skills:
- Practical, solution-oriented approach to taxation issues.
- Ability to work independently in a consulting/contractual setup.
- Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
- Qualification:
CA Inter / CA drop out/ MBA (Finance) / Qualified tax professional (preferred but not mandatory based on experience).
