This role is mainly focused on automation of cloud infrastructure testing, including bespoke solutions to reduce toil for our SREs. The QA team works closely with Technical Operations and Engineering Leadership to deliver high quality solutions and as such requires excellent communication & technical skills.
As a Staff

SaaS platform, ensuring that our 99.99% uptime is unshakeable as traffic hits our services.
An ideal candidate will be someone who is passionate about automation & appling those automation skills in testing cloud native software in a fast-paced agile environment while partnering with cloud Infrastructure & operations teams. Okta engineering strongly believes in automated testing, and an iterative process to build high-quality next generation software.
Experience with implementing AI/ML solutions in the testing domain will be a big plus!
Please note this is an operations focused role.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with multiple teams in the Scrum/Agile environment within the Cloud Operations domain.
- Provide Quality Assurance and Testing Services to our SREs (Site Reliability Engineers) and cross functional teams.
- Interface with SREs, Product Management & Customer Support teams.
- Build tools to facilitate QA/testing tasks therefore removing manual effort - we wage war against manual testing.
- Conduct functional and non-functional testing of software applications and systems.
- Develop and execute test cases, test plans, and test scripts.
- Participate in the software development process to identify defects and ensure timely resolution.
- Collaborate with developers to reproduce and diagnose software issues.
- Identify areas for improvement in the software development process.
- Learn new technologies and techniques to stay current with industry trends and advancements.
- Provide on-call support for our SaaS platform.
Job Duties
Major areas of responsibility include:
- Provide on-call support (non customer facing) for our high availability SaaS platform
- Provide assurance for infrastructure changes going into production by reviewing process and determining impact on production
- Review infrastructure requirements and design related test plans and test cases
- Develop automation plans and write test code to execute the plan
- Work with engineering management to scope and plan engineering efforts
- Work closely with the team to evangelize optimal quality practices
- Participate in the design and implementation of reliable cloud components
- Enhance and maintain existing test automation and CM frameworks
- Continuously review and optimize test coverage
- Interface with Development, Architects and Technical Operations
- Clearly communicate and document QE plans for scrum teams to review and comment
- Types of testing we carry out includes and not limited to: Configuration; Component; Integration; DR; Functional; Chaos & Performance
- Strong problem solving, troubleshooting, and analytic skills in a multi-tier SaaS environment
- Excellent verbal and written communication
Minimum REQUIRED Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
5+ years of experience of working on cloud providers e.g. AWS/GCP. Ideally certified5+ years of experience as a quality engineer or software engineer5+ years of experience working in a SaaS based environment5+ years of experience with some of the following technologies and services:- Programming languages: golang, python, ruby, shell scripting
- Monitoring tools (Splunk/Datadog/Kibana)
- Containerisation, Kubernetes & Terraform
- Linux based OS with proficient command line skills
- SQL & NoSQL databases
- Test automation development of integrated tests
- Developing and executing end to end or system test plans
- Setting up and maintaining test configurations and lab environments
- Performance testing
- Chaos testing
- Education and Training:
- B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science & Engineering or related experience
- Specialized training in: SDLC & any certifications in cloud technologies and programming languages will be desirable
