Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Technical Lead to own the architecture, engineering execution, and technical evolution of our digital lending platform.

Reporting directly to the CTO, this role combines technical leadership, hands-on development, and team management. You will lead a team of engineers while remaining actively involved in solution design, coding, code reviews, and production support.

The ideal candidate has strong expertise in Python, PostgreSQL, and Microsoft Azure, with experience building scalable cloud-native platforms. Experience in lending, financial services, or regulated domains is highly desirable.

You will act as the engineering owner of the lending platform, partnering closely with business, operations, risk, and compliance teams to deliver secure, reliable, and scalable solutions that support the full lending lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Strategy & Architecture

Define and drive the technical roadmap for the lending platform aligned with business objectives.

Design and own scalable, resilient, secure, and maintainable system architecture.

Lead architectural decisions across microservices, APIs, integrations, data models, and platform services.

Establish engineering standards, design principles, and development best practices.

Drive cloud-native architecture leveraging Microsoft Azure services.

Participate in architecture reviews and govern technical decision-making across the platform.

Engineering Leadership & Delivery

Lead and mentor a team of approximately six engineers.

Provide technical direction and ensure consistent execution across engineering initiatives.

Own engineering delivery commitments and release planning.

Work closely with product, business, operations, and compliance teams to translate requirements into technical solutions.

Identify delivery risks, remove execution bottlenecks, and manage technical trade-offs.

Ensure development aligns with architectural standards, security requirements, and quality expectations.

Hands-On Engineering

Remain actively involved in software development and technical implementation.

Contribute to the codebase, particularly for critical platform components and architectural initiatives.

Review code, mentor developers, and maintain high engineering standards.

Support troubleshooting of complex production issues and performance bottlenecks.

Drive platform modernization, refactoring, and technical debt reduction initiatives.

Platform Reliability, Security & Operations

Own non-functional requirements including availability, scalability, performance, reliability, and security.

Establish production readiness standards and operational best practices.

Lead incident management, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Implement monitoring, observability, and alerting frameworks.

Drive capacity planning and platform scalability initiatives.

Ensure secure software development practices across the engineering organization.

Governance, Risk & Compliance

Ensure compliance with RBI guidelines, digital lending regulations, data privacy requirements, and security standards.

Define and enforce data governance and security controls.

Manage technical risk, platform stability, and regulatory compliance considerations.

Collaborate with risk and compliance teams during audits and reviews.

Stakeholder Collaboration

Partner closely with business and operations teams to understand business priorities and translate them into engineering solutions.

Provide technical leadership during strategic planning and business discussions.

Act as the primary engineering representative for the lending platform.

Support business teams with technical insights, feasibility assessments, and solution recommendations.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Technical Expertise

10+ years of software engineering experience with at least 3+ years in a Technical Lead or Engineering Lead role.

Strong hands-on expertise in Python for backend systems, APIs, and distributed applications.

Deep expertise in PostgreSQL including schema design, performance tuning, indexing, and scaling.

Strong experience building microservices and distributed systems.

Solid understanding of REST APIs, event-driven architectures, and cloud-native design patterns.

Microsoft Azure

Hands-on experience with:

Azure Container Apps

Azure Functions

PostgreSQL Flexible Server

Azure Service Bus

Azure Storage

Azure Key Vault

Azure Virtual Networks

Azure Monitor / Application Insights

Azure DevOps and/or GitHub Actions

Domain Knowledge

Experience working within lending, fintech, banking, financial services, or other regulated industries.

Understanding of lending workflows such as:

Loan Origination

Credit Assessment and Underwriting

Loan Disbursement

Repayment Management

Collections and Recovery

Familiarity with RBI regulations and digital lending guidelines is preferred.

Leadership & Delivery

Proven experience leading engineering teams and delivering complex software platforms.

Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.

Experience owning engineering roadmaps and technical execution.

Ability to balance business priorities, technical quality, and delivery timelines.

Experience mentoring engineers and building high-performing teams.

Nice to Have

Experience working with Android application teams and mobile-first products.

Experience in microfinance or digital lending platforms.

Exposure to AI/ML use cases such as credit risk assessment, fraud detection, and customer engagement.

Experience implementing DevSecOps practices and secure SDLC processes.

Experience in high-growth startup environments.

Engineering degree; postgraduate business qualifications are a plus.
