About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Network Engineer.

The L1 Senior Network Engineer is responsible for delivering advanced frontline network support, ensuring high availability, performance, and reliability of the enterprise network. This role acts as a senior member within the L1 tier-providing deeper technical troubleshooting, guiding junior engineers, maintaining operational excellence, and ensuring timely incident response and escalation. The engineer supports incidents, service requests, monitoring alerts, and daytoday operational tasks across LAN, WAN, WiFi, firewall connectivity, and network monitoring systems.


In this role, you will:

  • Lead or participate in implementing network security policies across routers and firewalls
  • Manage production networks including Internet Protocol backbone, data centers and edge pops across the globe
  • Ensure the continuous availability of all data network services
  • Identify gaps, risks and issues and navigate organizational structure to resolve them
  • Perform quarterly proactive network testing to ensure proper functioning and reliability of the network
  • Investigate and remediate network capacity related issues
  • Apply knowledge of security and regulatory policies to design and implement foolproof secured network solutions
  • Provide resolution information and work with other teams to complete impact analysis
  • Deliver comprehensive and maintenance plans for change management review and approval
  • Mentor and train network operations team in the installation, configuration, and maintenance
  • Partner cross-functionally with other Product Infrastructure teams in order to continuously improve and apply standards and policies relevant to operational excellence


Required Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of Network Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Incident Management & Troubleshooting

  • Respond to and triage network alerts, connectivity issues, and performance degradations.
  • Perform advanced L1/L1.5 troubleshooting across:
    • LAN/WAN
    • Routers/switches
    • SDWAN
    • Wireless (APs/controllers)
    • VPN (IPSec/SSL)
    • DNS/DHCP
    • Basic firewall access issues
  • Conduct initial diagnostics and drive issues to resolution or escalate to L2/L3 as needed.
  • Document incidents clearly with root-cause notes, evidence, and resolution steps.
  • Operational Support

  • Execute approved operational tasks such as:
    • Port activations
    • VLAN assignments
    • Cabling checks
    • Device health validations
    • Basic config reviews under guidance
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly health checks of network devices and circuits.
  • Support scheduled maintenance activities and perform postchange validations.
  • Identify recurring issues and flag them for problem management.
  • Monitoring & Reporting

  • Monitor network health and alerts using NMS tools (SolarWinds, PRTG, Cisco Prime, Zabbix, etc.).
  • Track WAN link performance, device uptime, interface utilization, and error conditions.
  • Prepare daily/weekly reports on incidents, performance trends, and operational KPIs.
  • Assist in early detection of issues and proactive mitigation.
  • Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain uptodate network inventory, diagrams, and SOPs.
  • Follow ITIL operational standards-Incident, Change, Request, and Problem.
  • Update knowledge base articles and provide inputs for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with security and audit requirements.


Job Expectations:

  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, VLANs, STP, VPN basics.

  • Exposure to Cisco/Juniper/Arista networking platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • DHCP, DNS
    • NAT
    • OSPF/BGP fundamentals
    • Access lists & basic firewall troubleshooting
  • Experience with network monitoring tools (SolarWinds, PRTG, etc.).
  • Familiarity with SDWAN technologies (Cisco Viptela, Fortinet, Aruba, etc.) is a plus.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Clear and professional communication with technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Ability to mentor junior team members and guide them through troubleshooting.
  • Organized, detailoriented, with strong documentation skills.
  • Comfortable working in rotating shifts and supporting 247 operations.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
  • 3-5 years of experience in network operations or support.
  • Certifications preferred:CCNA (required)/ CCNP (advantageous)/ ITIL Foundation (preferred)
  • Strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Ability to remain calm during major incidents.
  • Eagerness to learn and grow into higher engineering roles (L2/L3).
  • Experience in enterprise or global network environments.
  • Strengthens frontline operational stability.
  • Reduces incident resolution time (MTTR).
  • Ensures consistent monitoring and rapid response.
  • Supports business continuity by stabilizing connectivity services.
  • Acts as a bridge between junior L1 engineers and advanced L2/L3 teams.
