Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Network Engineer with 8-12 years of experience in telecommunication or network engineering. The ideal candidate will be a technical leader responsible for upgrading legacy networks, ensuring high-quality design deliverables, and managing project milestones. This role requires hands-on experience with MPLS devices and a deep understanding of network protocols and protection scenarios, with a focus on building resilient utility grid networks.

Key Responsibilities

  • Network Upgrades & Design: Lead network upgrade projects by replacing legacy TDM and SONET technology with modern packet networks. You'll be responsible for the full design cycle, from assessing equipment needs and developing a scope of work to drafting detailed designs and creating a Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Technical Expertise: Apply telecom principles to create resilient network solutions, with careful attention to QoS, PTP synchronization, and other protection scenarios. You will prepare detailed network diagrams and configurations for MPLS, switches, and routers.
  • Analysis & Migration: Perform network analysis on existing grid networks and create cutover packages for migrating channels from TDM to packet networks. This includes auditing circuits and planning for synchronization and fiber.
  • Project Management: Maintain comprehensive project documentation from preliminary design to as-built. You'll ensure project milestones are met on time through effective action planning and seamless communication with cross-functional stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • Education: A Degree in Electrical Engineering (EE) or Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering (EXTC).
  • Experience: 8-12 years of experience in telecommunication or network engineering, with hands-on experience with reputable MPLS devices. Experience with utility network upgrades in design, testing, or commissioning is a significant advantage.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of IP Networking protocols for routing and switching.
  • Experience with MPLS-TP, MPLS-IP, QoS, and PTP synchronization.
  • Familiarity with legacy technologies like TDM and SONET, as well as modern transport technologies like DWDM.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Visio, Excel, and Word.
  • Experience with teleprotection couplers in a utility grid.
  • Personal Attributes: Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Desired Skills: Technical certifications from entities like Nokia or Cisco are highly valued. Familiarity with SCADA or OT networking and a background in firewalls are also a plus.
