Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and driven Senior Architect to join our design team, based full-time at our Nariman Point, Mumbai office. This is a senior leadership role within Tricone's India design practice, carrying ownership across the full architectural process—from schematic design through construction administration—on complex residential and mixed-use developments.
The role requires rooted expertise in both residential typologies: high-density apartment and multi-family design, as well as bespoke single-family villa design. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable resolving technical detailing challenges and engaging clients and stakeholders at a senior level.
The primary project focus is Araaya Alibaug—a 235-acre master plan of residential villas, amenities, three clubhouses, and four resorts across a coastal hillside terrain in Maharashtra. This role requires periodic site visits to Alibaug throughout the year as construction progresses, and the candidate must be comfortable and willing to travel to site as needed.
This position is suited to a candidate who can perform a variety of assignments requiring skills across all conventional aspects of architectural design, independently and comprehensively—from surveying existing site conditions and transferring schematic sketches into fully developed plans, through to the production of complete construction document sets and active construction administration.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership
- Lead the full architectural process from schematic design through construction administration on residential and mixed-use projects of small to moderate size and complexity, ensuring every detail aligns with design intent and project goals.
- Independently and comprehensively survey and document existing site conditions, including MEP systems and on-site code issues, and produce accurate as-built drawings.
- Transfer schematic design sketches into fully developed plans and produce complete sets of construction documents, including specifications and MEP coordination, independently.
- Produce 3D models and renderings to support design development, client presentations, and internal review.
Construction Administration
- Act as the primary liaison during construction phases, conducting site visits to Alibaug as required throughout the year, leading owner/contractor meetings, and resolving on-site challenges with confidence and expertise.
- Perform construction administration duties including reviewing and logging shop drawings, submittals, and RFIs, under the direction of senior leadership where applicable.
- Attend construction field visits and generate detailed site reports.
- Perform punch list reviews and post-occupancy reports.
Technical Design
- Develop interior and exterior construction details with particular expertise in detailing for coastal and tropical climates such as those found in Mumbai and Alibaug—including monsoon resilience, humidity management, salt exposure, and material durability under high-moisture conditions.
- Ensure all projects adhere to applicable building codes, fire regulations, zoning laws, and accessibility requirements across Indian and, where relevant, US regulatory contexts.
- Conduct technical and building code research to resolve design challenges and maintain compliance throughout all project phases.
Mentorship & Team Leadership
- Oversee and mentor junior architects and designers, fostering their professional growth while maintaining high standards of design quality and technical rigour across all project phases.
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams and external consultants, coordinating project deliverables to maintain design integrity and technical accuracy.
Client & Stakeholder Engagement
- Present design concepts, construction updates, and project progress to clients, general contractors, and review boards, ensuring transparency and collaborative problem-solving.
- Attend and lead client meetings as assigned, representing Tricone's design standards and project commitments with clarity and professionalism.
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Architecture.
- 10+ years of professional architectural experience, with a strong and demonstrable track record in both residential apartment/multi-family design and single-family villa design.
- Proven experience managing construction administration on large-scale or complex projects, from design detailing through on-site coordination.
- Experience working on projects in coastal or tropical climates is strongly preferred; familiarity with Mumbai/Maharashtra building regulations is a significant advantage.
Licensing & Accreditation
- Registered Architect (India) or eligibility to register; international licensure is an additional advantage.
- LEED accreditation or equivalent sustainability credentials are a plus.
Technical Skills
- Strong command of AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM software; proficiency with parametric tools such as Dynamo or Grasshopper is advantageous.
- 3D modeling and rendering expertise; ability to produce compelling visualizations and design diagrams.
- Comprehensive understanding of drafting standards, schematic development, construction documentation, and MEP coordination.
- Deep knowledge of interior and exterior construction detailing, including systems integration and material performance under demanding climatic conditions.
Professional Skills
- Strong leadership capability with demonstrated experience managing and mentoring design teams.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills for engaging clients, consultants, contractors, and regulatory bodies at a senior level.
- Ability to resolve complex design and construction issues while maintaining the integrity of the project's vision.
- Genuine passion for architecture and a commitment to delivering innovative, technically sound, and enduring design.
- Willingness and ability to travel to Alibaug for site visits on a regular basis throughout the year.
