About the Role
As a (Senior) Scrum Master, your goal would be to help teams deliver high-quality results by ensuring a productive, efficient, and positive work environment. You will coach and support multiple agile teams to improve performance and foster collaboration. You will facilitate scrum ceremonies and remove obstacles to ensure smooth flow of work and continuous improvement, in a fast-paced scaled agile environment. You play a senior role, as you will also manage the teams for performance, and present and report progress to stakeholders. The ideal candidate should bring a strong understanding of Agile, Scrum, Kanban, as well as Waterfall methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
The job responsibilities are three-fold.
- Agile Scrum Master
- Facilitate agile events like PI Planning, Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives
- Remove obstacles that hinder the team's progress and ensure adherence to agile practices
- Coach the team, foster collaboration, and support the Product Owner in managing the product backlog
- Oversee sprint goals, drive quality and ensure the Definition of Done (DOD) is being followed, ensure each team member is fully engaged in stories and making meaningful contributions
- Build a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame or retribution, with an emphasis on healing and problem-solving
- Protect the team from over-committing and scope creep
- Aid in estimation and facilitate sub task creation
- Contribute to and represent the teams in scrum of scrums and SAFe agile ceremonies
- Note areas for improvement and action items for future sprints
- Team Management
- Provide line management to the teams, focusing on coaching and on their continued development
- Meet individually with team members and iron out team disagreements on process and work styles
- Monitor the team's efficiency and introduce improvements to enhance delivery
- Stakeholder Management and Programme Reporting
- Stakeholder, management and customer interactions, providing programme/PI/sprint status and metrics on a regular basis
- Regular analysis of burndown charts and other portfolio planning tools to understand what gets built and the cadence
- Define and adhere to the programme governance process
Required Skills and Experience
- Degree or Honours in Computer Science, Business Administration or a similar business/technology degree
- Certified in agile methodologies, examples are SAFe (Release Train Lead, Scrum Master, Leading SAFe), PMI (ACP), Scrum Alliance (Scrum Master, Leadership) certifications
- 12-18 years of working experience in Information Technology
- 5+ years of practical application of agile methodologies and the Scrum Management discipline
- People leader with agile delivery experience within the context of large technology change programmes
- Working knowledge of Agile, Scrum, Kanban, as well as Waterfall methodologies
- Well-versed in the use of tools of software delivery such as Jira, Confluence, Qmetry, PowerPoint, Excel, Word, ServiceNow, collaboration tools like Miro and Mural
- Excellent communication skills, focusing on core scrum values of openness, honesty and respect
- Excellent presentation and reporting skills
- Ability to effectively communicate specialist information in an understandable format to stakeholders
- Exposure to IT procurement, contracting, service level management practices
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience leading/working in scaled agile release trains
- Delivery experience in a large matrix organisation with global teams
- Good architectural knowledge of large, complex products
- Additional certifications such as PMI, Prince 2 are desirable
- Experience delivering innovative or AI products
