Job Description

QA Engineer

Location: Remote

Role summary: Scrut is looking for a QA Engineer (13 years) who will own day-to-day manual testing for our SaaS web application, ensure high product quality, and contribute to continuous improvement of QA processes, documentation, and release readiness. This role is manual-focused but expects curiosity and a growth mindset toward automation and modern QA practices (including using AI tools to speed up test design and analysis).

Responsibilities

  • Partner with product managers/designers/developers to understand requirements and define quality assurance parameters for features and releases.
  • Create and maintain test documentation: test plans, test cases, test data, checklists, and test reports.
  • Execute manual testing for web UI and workflows (functional, exploratory, regression, smoke/sanity) and ensure release confidence.
  • Identify, report, and track defects with clear reproduction steps, evidence, and severity/priority; collaborate with engineering until closure.
  • Perform regression testing to verify fixes and prevent re-introduction of issues across releases.
  • Troubleshoot quality issues by isolating root causes (where possible) and proposing improvements to test coverage and test procedures.
  • Coordinate test activities within sprint/release cycles and communicate risks, quality status, and blockers to stakeholders.
  • Use AI-assisted workflows (with human validation) to accelerate QA work, such as:
  • Drafting test scenarios from PRDs/user stories and converting them into structured test cases.
  • Generating edge cases/negative tests and improving coverage for workflows.
  • Summarizing bug reports, logs, or reproduction notes into crisp, shareable updates.
  • Stay up to date with testing tools, techniques, and best practices; continuously improve team processes and documentation quality.

Requirements

  • 13 years of experience in manual QA for web applications (SaaS experience preferred).
  • Good understanding of the software testing lifecycle and core testing methodologies.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments and collaborating closely with product and engineering.
  • Strong analytical skills: ability to define problems, collect relevant information, and draw practical conclusions.
  • Ability to clearly identify, communicate, and escalate issues/risks when required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills (bug reporting, test documentation, stakeholder updates).
  • Self-starter/team player mindset with the ability to prioritize and adapt in a fast-changing environment.
  • Comfortable using AI tools for productivity (test case drafting, edge-case brainstorming, bug write-ups) while ensuring correctness and confidentiality of sensitive data.

Good To Have (nice-to-have)

  • Basic understanding of automation testing concepts and willingness to learn (e.g., UI & API automation with Playwright).
  • Familiarity with test management and defect tracking tools (e.g., Jira).
  • Basic API testing exposure (Postman) and ability to validate request/response and common error conditions.
