Job Summary
The Production Manager is responsible for planning, coordinating, and controlling manufacturing processes to ensure products are produced efficiently, safely, on time, and within quality and cost standards. The role involves managing manpower, machinery, materials, and methods to achieve production targets while maintaining compliance with safety and quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Production Planning Control
- Plan, organize, and control production activities to meet daily, weekly, and monthly targets
- Develop production schedules based on order requirements, capacity, and resources
- Monitor production progress and take corrective actions to avoid delays
Manpower Team Management
- Lead, motivate, and supervise supervisors, technicians, operators, and shopfloor staff
- Allocate manpower effectively to maximize productivity
- Provide training, guidance, and performance feedback to the team
Process Productivity Improvement
- Optimize production processes to improve efficiency, output, and cost effectiveness
- Identify bottlenecks and implement corrective and preventive actions
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives such as Kaizen, Lean, or Six Sigma
Quality Assurance
- Ensure products meet quality standards and specifications
- Coordinate with Quality team to address defects, rework, and customer complaints
- Ensure adherence to SOPs, work instructions, and quality systems (ISO, IATF, etc.)
Safety Compliance
- Ensure compliance with safety, health, and environmental regulations
- Promote safe work practices and ensure use of PPE
- Investigate accidents, near misses, and implement preventive measures
Material Inventory Control
- Coordinate with Stores, Purchase, and Planning teams for material availability
- Monitor consumption of raw materials, WIP, and finished goods
- Minimize wastage, scrap, and production losses
Maintenance Coordination
- Coordinate with Maintenance team to reduce breakdowns and downtime
- Support preventive and corrective maintenance activities
- Ensure equipment and machinery are available and operational
Reporting Documentation
- Prepare and review production reports, efficiency metrics, and KPIs
- Monitor production costs, labor efficiency, and machine utilization
- Report production performance to management
Qualifications
- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical, Production, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering
- Additional certifications in production management or quality systems preferred
