Orbit is looking forward to onboarding a diligent Packaging Engineer.
Candidate must have the ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Mandatory Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 3–5 years of technical experience in packaging development and design.
- Working knowledge of CAD tools and packaging design software such as Artios CAD.
- Strong proficiency in all areas of Packaging Engineering, including flexible packaging, corrugated and folding cartons, plastics thermoforming, films and laminations, pre-formed bags, pressure-sensitive labels, printing processes, and artwork/graphics development.
- Skilled in using measurement tools and analytical techniques to evaluate materials, components, and shipping/test simulations, with the ability to apply, analyze, and improve control processes.
- Proficiency in MS Office (specifically Excel).

Role & Responsibilities:
- Lead packaging design activities for component packaging, wooden crates, pallets, and tertiary packaging systems.
- Develop, test, and evaluate new and existing packaging solutions to ensure design compatibility, manufacturability, machinability, and shipping/distribution performance.
- Collaborate with QA, Product Development, Manufacturing, and cross-functional teams (Procurement, Technology, Supply Chain, Product Stewardship) to qualify and implement packaging solutions for NPD launches with a focus on cost, quality and performance.
- Gather and apply feedback from internal and external customers; respond promptly to packaging-related needs and product expectations.
- Support packaging automation equipment setup, troubleshooting, optimization, and training; experience with stacker/bagger, case packer, and palletizer systems is a plus.
- Prototype packaging concepts using appropriate materials (flexible, corrugated, folding cartons, films, pressure-sensitive labels, etc.) and prepare mock-ups for market presentations.
- Develop and maintain packaging specifications, pallet configurations, packaging procedures, and required documentation in the specifications database; assist in BOM creation and cost analysis.
- Identify and lead cost reduction and cost avoidance initiatives, including redesigns, component consolidation, and line efficiency improvements.
- Conduct shipping/distribution testing (ISTA/ASTM), plan and document experimental trials, and ensure packaging meets performance requirements.
- Provide technical support through troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement to reduce downtime and improve packaging performance.
- Develop shipping checklists and ensure customer orders are shipped securely and completely.
- Engage with distributor teams to resolve packaging or damage issues as needed.
- Collaborate with suppliers and Purchasing team to evaluate packaging materials and select optimal solutions.
- Work closely with Manufacturing Operations and Process Engineers to align on standard work instructions, return-to-service protocols, and equipment risk profiles.
