What you'll be doing:
Key Responsibilities:
- Patching and Updates
- Apply patches and updates to network devices, including firewalls, routers, switches, and load balancers.
- Conduct regular reviews to identify vulnerabilities in network configurations and implement timely fixes.
- Coordinate with vendors to stay current on firmware updates and security patches.
- Ticket Management and Task Execution
- Follow ticketing requests for patching and maintenance tasks
- Ensure all tasks align with assigned tickets, logging actions and maintaining communication with requestors for progress updates and task completion.
- Document outcomes and address any follow-up actions as specified within the ticketing system to ensure traceability and accountability.
- Change Management and Compliance
- Adhere strictly to change management protocols, ensuring all changes are documented, approved, and scheduled to minimise disruption.
- Conduct pre-implementation checks and gain approval with CAB before proceeding.
- Maintain meticulous change logs and provide reports for audit and compliance purposes.
- Risk Assessment and Impact Analysis
- Quantify and report on potential risks associated with patching activities
- Reference specific client topologies and configurations to assess and mitigate potential impact.
- Topology-Specific Maintenance
- Refer to detailed network topology documentation to ensure all maintenance activities align with unique client environments and operational dependencies.
- Maintain familiarity with and documentation of client topologies, facilitating a streamlined, impact-minimising approach to maintenance.
- Routine and Scheduled Maintenance
- Perform routine, scheduled patching and maintenance tasks as outlined in the iomart maintenance calendar, following strict adherence to procedures without deviation.
- Coordinate with client support and CAB to ensure maintenance windows are aligned with business needs and network performance expectations.
- Consistently document completed tasks and any observed issues during maintenance to support continuous improvement and knowledge sharing across the team.
- Ensure escalation to iomart on call colleagues in the event of a network issue or outage.
- Quality Reporting and Documentation
- Generate detailed reports on patching and maintenance activities, including compliance metrics and system performance.
- Maintain clear documentation for all network security policies, procedures, and configuration standards.
- Develop dashboards and visual reports to communicate network security status and trends to stakeholders.

Knowledge And Skills
Technical Proficiency
- Extensive knowledge of network devices (e.g. Firewalls, routers, switches) and core network, switching and routing protocols.
- Extensive knowledge of network security protocols e.g. IPsec, SSL/TLS, SSH etc.
- Proficiency with network management, diagnostic and security tools, including vulnerability assessment software, and patch management platforms.
- Familiarity with security frameworks and standards, such as NIST CSF, CIS Controls, or ISO/IEC 27001.
Troubleshooting and Problem-Solving
- Ability to diagnose and resolve issues in complex network environments promptly.
- Experience in analysing network logs and employing root cause analysis to prevent recurring issues.
- Familiarity with SIEM solutions for proactive detection and mitigation of network vulnerabilities.
Quality Reporting and Compliance
- Proficiency in reporting tools and ability to capture pertinent information within reporting.
- Maintain accurate data within ticketing to ensure adequate reporting of activities and changes.
Desired Qualifications
- Certifications such as CCNA Security, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, or Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) are highly desirable.
- Experience - At least 5 years in a network security or IT security role with hands-on experience in patching, configuration, and monitoring of network devices.
- Education - Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Networks, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field.
