Mechanical Engineering AI Trainer
About The Role
We partner with the world's leading AI research labs to build smarter, more reliable AI systems — and we need mechanical engineers to make it happen. As a Mechanical Engineering AI Trainer, you'll use your deep technical expertise to challenge, evaluate, and improve how advanced AI models reason through complex engineering problems.
This is a unique opportunity to sit at the intersection of engineering and artificial intelligence — contributing directly to the next generation of AI tools used by engineers and researchers worldwide.
- Organization: Alignerr
- Type: Hourly Contract
- Location: Remote
- Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
- Design Advanced Engineering Problems — Craft challenging problems across fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, FEA, heat transfer, kinematics, and material science to rigorously test AI performance
- Author Gold-Standard Solutions — Write precise, step-by-step technical solutions that serve as benchmarks for AI training and evaluation
- Audit AI Reasoning — Review AI-generated outputs including CAD logic, thermodynamic proofs, and material specifications for technical accuracy, safety, and compliance with engineering standards (ASME, ISO, etc.)
- Refine Model Thinking — Identify and document logical errors in AI reasoning — such as incorrect force distributions, energy conservation violations, or flawed structural assumptions — and provide structured feedback to improve model quality
- Document Failure Modes — Systematically capture how and where AI models break down so engineering teams can address weaknesses
Who You Are
- Advanced Degree — Master's (in progress or completed) or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related discipline
- Deep Domain Knowledge — Strong foundational expertise in solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing processes
- Technical Communicator — Able to explain complex physical phenomena and mathematical reasoning clearly and concisely in writing
- Precision-Oriented — High attention to detail when reviewing derivations, unit conversions, boundary conditions, and physical constraints
- No AI experience required — Your engineering expertise is what matters
Nice to Have
- Experience with data annotation, data quality, or technical evaluation workflows
- Proficiency with engineering software such as SolidWorks, MATLAB, or ANSYS
- Familiarity with FEA solvers or CFD simulation environments
