Mechanical Engineering – AI Trainer
About The Role
We're partnering with the world's leading AI research labs to build smarter, more technically rigorous AI models — and we need mechanical engineers to make it happen. As an AI Trainer, you'll use your deep domain knowledge to challenge, test, and refine how AI reasons through complex engineering problems.
This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of engineering and artificial intelligence, contributing directly to the next generation of technical AI systems — all on a flexible, remote contract basis.
- Organization: Alignerr
- Type: Hourly Contract
- Location: Fully Remote
- Commitment: 10–40 hours/week
What You'll Do
- Design Complex Engineering Problems — Craft advanced, multi-step problems spanning fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, structural mechanics, FEA, heat transfer, kinematics, and materials science to rigorously stress-test AI capabilities
- Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Develop precise, step-by-step technical solutions that serve as gold-standard benchmarks for AI learning and evaluation
- Audit AI Reasoning — Review and evaluate AI-generated outputs — including CAD logic, thermodynamic proofs, and material specifications — for technical accuracy, physical validity, and adherence to engineering standards (e.g., ASME, ISO)
- Identify & Correct Reasoning Failures — Spot logical errors such as incorrect force distributions, energy conservation violations, or flawed unit analysis, and provide structured feedback to improve how the model thinks
- Document Failure Modes — Systematically record model weaknesses to help research teams harden AI reasoning across mechanical engineering domains
Who You Are
- Advanced Degree — Master's (pursuing or completed) or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related field
- Strong Domain Expertise — Deep knowledge in one or more core areas: solid mechanics, fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, CAD/CAM, or manufacturing processes
- Clear Technical Communicator — Able to explain complex physical phenomena and mathematical derivations in precise, well-structured written form
- Detail-Oriented — High level of precision when reviewing mathematical derivations, unit conversions, dimensional analysis, and physical system constraints
- No prior AI experience required — we'll get you up to speed
Nice to Have
- Experience with data annotation, technical writing, or quality evaluation
- Proficiency in engineering software such as SolidWorks, MATLAB, ANSYS, or similar tools
- Familiarity with FEA workflows, CFD simulation, or mechatronics systems
