Job Description

Purpose & Scope

He/She will provide strategic and operational legal support to Sembcorp's Renewable Energy business in India, with a strong focus on projects executed in the Middle East market. This role is responsible for managing complex commercial contracts, ensuring regulatory compliance, mitigating legal risks, and supporting the successful development and execution of renewable energy and hydrogen projects across multiple jurisdictions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contract Management
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and finalize a broad range of commercial contracts, including but not limited to:
    • Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs)
    • Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) contracts
    • Wind Turbine Generator (WTG) supply agreements
    • Solar module supply agreements
    • Bid-related documentation and consortium / joint venture agreements
  • Ensure contracts are aligned with commercial objectives, risk appetite, and internal governance requirements.
  • Procurement Legal Support
  • Lead legal review and negotiations of procurement contracts, vendor agreements, and supply arrangements.
  • Partner closely with procurement and project teams to ensure compliance with internal procurement policies and effective risk mitigation.
  • Support contract standardization and continuous improvement of contracting processes.
  • Regulatory & Compliance
  • Ensure business operations comply with applicable laws, regulations, and ethical standards across relevant jurisdictions.
  • Provide legal guidance on renewable energy and hydrogen project frameworks, including environmental, health, and safety regulations.
  • Monitor regulatory developments impacting renewable energy projects and advise the business on implications.
  • Risk & Dispute Management
  • Identify, assess, and proactively mitigate legal and contractual risks across project lifecycles.
  • Support pre-dispute resolution strategies, including claims management and negotiation.
  • Coordinate with and manage external counsel, where required, to support dispute resolution and specialized legal matters.
Qualifications & Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Law (LLB / LLM) from a recognized institution.
  • 58 years of relevant post-qualification legal experience, preferably within the renewable energy, infrastructure, or power sectors.
