Key Responsibilities:
Leadership & Team Management:
- Lead, mentor, and manage a team of mechanical HVAC design engineers and designers to ensure the successful execution of HVAC system designs.
- Foster a collaborative and innovative work environment, ensuring that the team delivers high-quality, cost-effective solutions within project timelines.
- Provide guidance on technical issues, resolving challenges, and supporting team members in their professional development.
- Oversee the workload distribution of the team, ensuring resources are utilized effectively and efficiently.
HVAC System Design & Development:
- Oversee the design and development of HVAC systems for a variety of projects, including commercial, residential, industrial, and institutional buildings.
- Ensure the HVAC designs are energy-efficient, meet regulatory standards, and comply with relevant codes (e.g., ASHRAE, LEED, local building codes).
- Conduct load calculations, duct design, equipment selection, and system integration for heating, cooling, ventilation, and air quality systems.
- Review and approve HVAC design drawings, specifications, and calculations produced by the team to ensure they are accurate and meet the project requirements.
Project Management & Execution:
- Manage multiple HVAC design projects simultaneously, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, budgets, and resource plans, ensuring the team meets all milestones and deliverables.
- Coordinate with other disciplines (e.g., electrical, plumbing, structural) to ensure that HVAC systems integrate seamlessly into the overall building design.
- Monitor project progress, identify risks and challenges, and implement corrective actions to mitigate delays or cost overruns.
Client & Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding HVAC design and technical issues.
- Work closely with clients to understand their needs and requirements, translating these into effective HVAC solutions.
- Provide regular updates to clients on project progress, timelines, and any changes in design or scope.
- Participate in client meetings and presentations, offering expert insights on HVAC system design and its integration into the overall project.
Quality Assurance & Compliance:
- Ensure that all HVAC designs comply with relevant industry codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., ASHRAE, ISO, local building codes).
- Conduct internal design reviews to ensure quality and accuracy of all HVAC designs before submission.
- Oversee the testing and commissioning of HVAC systems to ensure they meet performance requirements and operate efficiently.
- Monitor the installation process and ensure that all HVAC systems are installed according to the design specifications.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement:
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends, technologies, and innovations in HVAC systems, recommending the integration of new methods and tools into the design process.
- Promote sustainability by recommending energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly HVAC solutions that help reduce the building's overall carbon footprint.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings, continuously enhancing the design and execution processes.
Cost Control & Budget Management:
- Develop detailed HVAC system cost estimates for projects and work closely with the procurement team to ensure that all materials and equipment are procured in a cost-effective manner.
- Monitor project costs and provide recommendations for adjustments to ensure that HVAC projects stay within budget.
- Review and approve invoices, change orders, and purchase orders related to HVAC systems.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Ensure that all design documentation, reports, and project files are accurately maintained and up-to-date.
- Provide regular reports on project status, cost performance, and design modifications to senior management.
- Document lessons learned and best practices to improve future project delivery.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. A Master's degree in a relevant field is a plus.
- Experience: 8+ years of experience in HVAC design engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role. Experience in managing large-scale commercial or industrial HVAC projects is preferred.
- Certifications: Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification is preferred. LEED accreditation or similar sustainability certification is an advantage.
Skills & Competencies:
- Technical Expertise in HVAC Systems: Extensive knowledge of HVAC systems design, including load calculations, duct design, system selection, and integration.
- Project Management Skills: Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, with experience in budget management, scheduling, and resource allocation.
- Leadership & Team Management: Proven experience leading and mentoring a team of engineers, fostering a collaborative environment.
- Communication Skills: Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present technical information clearly to clients and stakeholders.
- Design Software Proficiency: Proficiency in HVAC design software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, Carrier HAP, Trane Trace) and other engineering design tools.
- Knowledge of Codes & Standards: In-depth knowledge of industry standards and regulations, including ASHRAE, LEED, and local building codes.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify issues and implement solutions effectively.
