Overview:
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Engineering Manager to lead a global team responsible for delivering high-quality Linux solutions, particularly focused on Ubuntu and related technologies. This role combines people leadership, project management, and hands-on technical collaboration to support the successful delivery of Linux-based solutions in partnership with OEMs, ODMs, IHVs, and internal engineering stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- People Leadership:
- Recruit, mentor, and empower team members to grow professionally and achieve outstanding results.
- Set clear goals, monitor performance, and manage career development plans.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and high-performance team environment.
- Project Oversight & Execution:
- Oversee project lifecycles from initiation to post-mortem.
- Handle escalations, track milestones, and manage risks proactively.
- Collaborate closely with project managers, hardware enablement teams, QA, and certification leads.
- Technical Collaboration:
- Act as a point of contact for technical discussions with OEMs, ODMs, SiPs, and IHVs.
- Align priorities with internal product teams (e.g., Desktop, Kernel, Security).
- Provide technical guidance and leadership on best practices, methodologies, and tools.
- Customer & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Prioritize and respond to global customer needs and escalations.
- Coordinate across time zones and functions to ensure successful outcomes.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Bachelor's or higher degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related STEM field.
- Strong background in Linux systems, particularly Ubuntu or Debian.
- Proven experience in engineering management roles, including team leadership and performance management.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills, with fluency in English and Chinese (both written and verbal).
- Comfortable working in a globally distributed, remote team.
- Committed to delivering high-quality, maintainable solutions on schedule.
Desirable Skills & Experience:
- Previous experience as a tech lead or technical decision-maker.
- Hands-on development or operations experience with:
- Ubuntu/Linux (kernel & userspace), deb/snap packaging
- QEMU/KVM, LXC/LXD, Containers
- Programming in Python, Go, C, or Bash
- Databases: PostgreSQL, MongoDB
- Cloud and infrastructure tools: Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph
- AI/ML infrastructure and tools
- Familiarity with CI/CD processes and tools.
- Contributions to or participation in open-source development projects.
