Role Purpose

To support the zonal business by handling legal, regulatory, and litigation-related matters, ensuring compliance with applicable insurance laws, regulatory guidelines, and internal policies. The role focuses on risk mitigation, litigation coordination, legal advisory, and documentation support at the zonal level.


Key Responsibilities

1. Litigation & Claims Support

  • Coordinate with panel advocates on consumer cases, civil suits, recovery matters, and criminal complaints.
  • Draft, vet, and respond to legal notices, consumer complaints, written statements, affidavits, and rejoinders.
  • Track litigation status and ensure timely filing, appearances, and compliance with court/consumer forum directions.
  • Assist claims and operations teams on legally sensitive cases.

2. Legal Advisory

  • Provide basic legal opinions to zonal business, sales, claims, and operations teams.
  • Support interpretation of policy conditions, endorsements, and insurance contracts.
  • Identify legal risks in business decisions and recommend mitigative actions.

3. Regulatory & Compliance Support

  • Ensure adherence to IRDAI regulations, circulars, and guidelines at the zonal level.
  • Assist in responding to regulatory inspections, audits, and compliance queries.
  • Support implementation of company-wide legal and compliance policies.

4. Documentation & Contracts

  • Vet routine agreements such as empanelment agreements, NDAs, MoUs, service contracts, and vendor agreements.
  • Maintain zonal repository of legal documents, case files, and opinions.
  • Support due diligence and documentation for zonal initiatives.

5. Stakeholder Coordination

  • Liaise with external advocates, law firms, investigators, and recovery agencies.
  • Coordinate with HO legal team for escalated or complex matters.
  • Support employee disciplinary matters and HR-related legal issues as required.

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Law (LLB - 3 years or 5 years) from a recognized university.
  • Enrollment with State Bar Council is preferred.

Experience

  • 0-2 years of post-qualification experience.
  • Fresh law graduates with relevant internship or litigation exposure may be considered.
  • Prior exposure to insurance, BFSI, or corporate legal environment is desirable but not mandatory.

Key Skills & Competencies

  • Basic knowledge of insurance laws, consumer protection laws, and civil procedure.
  • Sound drafting and documentation skills.
  • Good communication and coordination abilities.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work under timelines and handle multiple matters.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and legal case management systems.
