Position Summary

The Production Head will be the single-point accountability owner for all manufacturing operations across 6 units of Sai Machine Tools Pvt. Ltd. in Indore. This senior leadership role demands a hands-on professional who can drive production planning, inventory optimization, cost control, ERP management (SAP Business One), workshop maintenance, and safety compliance. The incumbent will ensure that Top Management receives timely, accurate, and reliable production and costing data to support strategic decision-making.

Key Responsibilities

A. Production Planning & Execution

  • Develop and execute monthly, weekly, and daily production plans for all 6 manufacturing units in coordination with sales and dispatch teams.
  • Monitor production output against targets and take corrective actions to minimize deviations, bottlenecks, and downtime.
  • Ensure on-time delivery of finished goods as per customer requirements and sales commitments.
  • Implement and oversee lean manufacturing practices to maximize productivity and reduce waste.
  • Coordinate with the design and engineering teams for new product introduction and process development.

B. Inventory Management

  • Maintain optimal inventory levels of raw materials, work-in-progress (WIP), consumables, spare parts, and finished goods across all units.
  • Implement inventory control policies to minimize dead stock, overstocking, and material shortages.
  • Conduct regular physical stock verification and reconciliation with ERP data.
  • Coordinate with the Purchase Department for timely procurement based on production schedules and reorder levels.
  • Track and report inventory turnover ratios and material utilization efficiency.

C. Cost Control & Costing

  • Monitor and control production costs including material, labour, overheads, power, and consumables.
  • Prepare and present monthly cost analysis reports highlighting variances against budgets and standard costs.
  • Identify and implement cost reduction initiatives without compromising quality or delivery timelines.
  • Establish standard costing for all products and regularly review Bill of Materials (BOM) accuracy.
  • Ensure accurate allocation of job-wise and unit-wise costs for management review.

D. SAP Business One (SAP B1) ERP Management

  • Ensure real-time and accurate data entry in SAP B1 for all production transactions including production orders, goods receipts, goods issues, inventory transfers, and BOM updates.
  • Oversee that all units maintain discipline in ERP usage so that Top Management dashboards and reports reflect true operational status.
  • Coordinate with the IT/ERP team for system improvements, custom reports, and workflow automation.
  • Train and monitor production staff on correct SAP B1 processes and data entry protocols.
  • Generate and validate production reports, MIS, and costing reports from SAP B1 for management review.

E. Multi-Unit Operations Management

  • Manage day-to-day production activities across all 6 manufacturing units in Indore.
  • Ensure standardization of processes, quality standards, and SOPs across all units.
  • Allocate and balance workload and manpower across units based on order priority and capacity.
  • Conduct regular unit visits and production review meetings to ensure alignment with targets.
  • Handle inter-unit material movement and resource sharing efficiently.

F. Workshop Maintenance & Safety

  • Develop and enforce preventive maintenance schedules for all CNC machines, conventional machines, and equipment.
  • Minimize unplanned breakdowns through TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) practices.
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety norms, fire safety regulations, and factory act requirements.
  • Conduct regular safety audits, drills, and training programs for all shop floor personnel.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and 5S-compliant workshop environments across all units.

G. Team Leadership & People Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop production supervisors, unit managers, and shop floor teams.
  • Conduct performance reviews, set KPIs/KRAs, and drive accountability at all levels.
  • Manage workforce planning including shift scheduling, overtime management, and contract labour coordination.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, discipline, and ownership across all units.

H. Reporting & MIS

  • Present daily, weekly, and monthly production reports to Top Management with accurate data from SAP B1.
  • Report on key metrics: OEE, machine utilization, rejection rates, production vs. plan variance, cost per unit, and delivery performance.
  • Provide real-time escalation on critical issues such as machine breakdowns, quality failures, material shortages, or safety incidents.

Required Qualifications & Experience

Education:

  • B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or Production Engineering (mandatory).
  • MBA in Operations Management or PG Diploma in Industrial Management (preferred).

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience as Production Head / Production Manager in Machine Tools, CNC Manufacturing, Heavy Engineering, or Precision Component Manufacturing industry.
  • Proven track record of managing multi-unit manufacturing operations.
  • Hands-on experience with SAP Business One (SAP B1) ERP system is mandatory.

Technical Skills:

  • Strong command over production planning (MRP/MPS), scheduling, and capacity planning.
  • Expertise in inventory management techniques (ABC analysis, EOQ, JIT, Kanban).
  • Proficiency in SAP B1 modules: Production, Inventory, MRP, and Costing.
  • Knowledge of CNC machining, conventional machining, assembly, and fabrication processes.
  • Familiarity with quality systems (ISO 9001), lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, and TPM.
  • Competence in MS Excel (advanced), data analysis, and MIS reporting.

Based on current industry benchmarks for the Machine Tools / Heavy Engineering manufacturing sector in India (Tier-2 city – Indore) for a candidate with 5–10 years of relevant experience:

Note: Salary is negotiable based on the candidate's experience, current CTC, and demonstrated capability in managing multi-unit operations with SAP B1 expertise. Candidates from the Machine Tools or CNC manufacturing industry will command a premium.

Working Conditions

  • Full-time position, 6 days a week (Monday to Saturday).
  • Regular travel across all 6 manufacturing units in Indore.
  • Shop floor presence required for a significant portion of the working day.
  • Availability for extended hours during peak production periods or urgent situations.
