1. Role Summary
SMT Engineering Limited is seeking a senior SAP Business One (SAP B1) Lead / In-house Consultant to take complete ownership of the company's ERP ecosystem. The incumbent will be the organisation's internal SAP subject-matter expert – responsible for end-to-end management of SAP B1 operations, configuration, customisations, reporting, user management and compliance. The role will also act as the single interface between SMT's internal business functions and our external SAP B1 channel partner, ensuring that the ERP directly supports business growth, operational efficiency and management decision making.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. SAP B1 Leadership & Ownership
- Own the complete SAP B1 environment including production, test and development instances (SQL / HANA).
- Define and drive the ERP roadmap for SMT Engineering in alignment with business strategy.
- Supervise a team of ERP executives, data-entry operators and functional key-users across departments.
- Establish governance over master data, document flows, approval procedures, numbering series and licence usage.
- Plan and execute SAP B1 version upgrades, patch releases, and add-on implementations with minimal downtime.
B. Functional Configuration & Customisation
- Configure and customise SAP B1 modules: Sales (A/R), Purchase (A/P), Inventory, Production (BOM, Production Orders, Routing), MRP, Finance & Banking, Service, HR / Payroll interfaces.
- Design and implement Formatted Search (FMS), User Defined Fields/Tables (UDF/UDT), User Defined Objects (UDO), approval procedures, alerts and transaction notifications.
- Lead requirement gathering, solution design, configuration, UAT and go-live for new features and process changes.
- Evaluate and recommend SAP B1 add-ons (e.g., Boyum B1UP, WMS, DMS, Payroll, e-Invoicing tools) and oversee their integration.
- Own integration of SAP B1 with external systems (bank portals, e-Invoice/e-Way Bill, CRM, shop-floor tools) via DI-API, Service Layer, B1if or middleware.
C. Reporting, MIS & Analytics
- Design, develop and maintain advanced reports in Crystal Reports, native SAP B1 layouts (PLD) and SAP B1 Query Manager.
- Build management dashboards and KPI reports for Sales, Purchase, Production, Inventory, Finance and Receivables/Payables.
- Write and optimise complex SQL / HANA queries for ad-hoc analysis and management requirements.
- Ensure on-time delivery of daily, weekly, monthly and board-level reports.
- Continuously automate and standardise reporting; reduce manual Excel dependencies.
D. Bridge with SAP B1 Channel Partner
- Act as the primary interface between SMT Engineering and the SAP B1 implementation / AMC support partner.
- Translate business requirements into clear functional specifications (FSDs) and technical specifications (TSDs) for the partner.
- Review, prioritise and approve all support tickets, change requests and customisations before they go live.
- Negotiate and manage AMC / support contracts, SLAs and effort estimates with the channel partner.
- Plan and sign-off UAT for every customisation, add-on or upgrade released into production.
E. User Support, Training & Documentation
- Provide L1 / L2 support to all internal users; escalate only unresolved issues to the channel partner.
- Design and deliver structured training programs for super-users and end users across all modules.
- Maintain SOPs, process flows, user manuals, configuration documents and change logs.
- Manage user creation, authorisations, licence allocation and data security within SAP B1.
F. Compliance, Controls & Audit
- Ensure that all statutory configurations are up-to-date: GST, e-Invoicing, e-Way Bill, TDS, TCS.
- Support internal and statutory audits by providing reports, logs and system walkthroughs.
- Implement internal controls around master data, approval hierarchies, user authorisation and period locking.
- Own data backup verification, disaster recovery drills and ERP security reviews.
G. Strategic & Advisory
- Advise top management on how SAP B1 can be leveraged for business growth, cost control and process improvement.
- Conduct periodic health checks of ERP usage and propose improvements.
- Benchmark SMT's ERP maturity against industry best practices.
- Drive digital transformation initiatives adjacent to SAP B1 (BI tools, mobile approvals, shop-floor integration).
3. Required Skills & Knowledge
- 6+ years of hands-on SAP B1 experience with at least 2 end-to-end implementations and multiple support / enhancement projects.
- Deep expertise across SAP B1 modules: Finance, Sales, Purchase, Inventory, Production (BOM, MRP), Banking and Service.
- Strong command of Crystal Reports, PLD, SAP B1 Query Manager and Formatted Search.
- Advanced SQL (MS SQL Server) and/or SAP HANA query skills; ability to troubleshoot complex queries and stored procedures.
- Working knowledge of DI-API, Service Layer, B1if / integration frameworks.
- Strong understanding of Indian statutory requirements (GST, e-Invoice, e-Way Bill, TDS, TCS) in SAP B1.
- Experience managing SAP B1 upgrades, patches, database maintenance and user licence management.
- Proven ability to lead small teams, vendors and channel partners.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills – comfortable presenting to top management.
Good to Have
- SAP B1 certifications: TB1000, TB1100, TB1200 or SAP HANA certification.
- Exposure to manufacturing / engineering / project-based industries.
- Experience with Boyum B1UP or similar productivity add-ons.
- Knowledge of BI tools (Power BI / Tableau) on top of SAP B1.
- Prior experience working with or at an SAP B1 channel partner.
4. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- ERP system uptime and stability (target ≥ 99%).
- On-time delivery of MIS and management reports (target 100% as per reporting calendar).
- % reduction in manual/offline reports replaced by SAP B1 automated reports (YoY).
- Average ticket resolution turnaround time (internal + channel partner).
- Successful execution of upgrades / add-on implementations within timeline and budget.
- User satisfaction index from internal functional teams (quarterly survey).
- Compliance readiness score during statutory and internal audits.
5. Compensation & Benefits
Fair and negotiable compensation in the range of ₹ 9.0 – 15.0 LPA, based on experience, SAP B1 certifications, manufacturing/engineering domain exposure and current CTC. Candidates with strong integration skills (DI-API / B1if) and prior channel-partner background may command the upper end of the range.
