Job Description

The Head of Marketing - Researchers India, will serve as the primary marketing strategy & planning resource for the Indian market. They will develop marketing programs and messaging to drive open access revenue growth in India. They will work hand in hand with local leadership and the global marketing teams, personalizing global marketing tactics to the local market and develop India specific tactics.

This role focuses on enhancing our brand position in India and showcasing our leading role in Open Access, while securing trust as a high quality publisher. Their focus is on journals and critical for driving growth in submissions, supporting open access initiatives, and strengthening India's journal contribution to global publishing revenues. The role combines strategic planning with operational implementation, requires strong analytical and communication skills, market insights, marketing experience and the ability to influence cross-functional teams while operating within the global marketing structure and its shared resources.

The Team

The Marketing Planning team within Research Marketing is dedicated to delivering effective and efficient tactical marketing programs that drive submissions and revenue. We focus on data-driven and automated strategies that are customer-centric, creative, and packed with value-added content. Our goal is to increase conversions, leverage the optimal channel mix for the best ROI, and support and strengthen our brand and product values.

Key Responsibilities:

Author marketing strategy development for India fueled by local market expertise

Based on insights into researcher behavior, competitive dynamics, and regulatory trends in India and in alignment with the global market strategy develop a marketing program and roadmap targeting Indian authors for quality journal article submissions of all journal brands within the remit of Research Marketing. Activities include:

  • Map institutional author clusters to relevant journals brands for effective targeting
  • Define brand positioning and messaging for India, ensuring consistency with global guidelines.
  • Conduct competitive analysis and share insights to inform local and global strategy
  • Monitor policy and regulatory changes (e.g., Open Access mandates) and integrate into strategy.

Implementation of Author Marketing Programs for India enabled by global infrastructure

  • Implement author marketing programs covering the entire funnel to attract high-quality submissions to journals from new and existing Indian authors, driving local revenue and global licensing opportunities.
  • Develop and coordinate marketing campaigns around FOA deals, ONOS OA Pilot, and transformative agreements.
  • Improve promotional messaging and channel mix for local researchers to enhance engagement.
  • Apply workflows and martech used by Research Marketing and collaborate with colleagues in Marketing Operations and Planning for appropriate priorisation, resource allocation and effective execution of India-specific campaigns.
  • Measure and continuously improve performance (ROI) and impact of campaigns
  • Report performance to Indian leadership and global Marketing leadership and inform global strategy with actionable insights

Success metrics: # of articles published / journal revenue including OA & TA & ONOS

Experience

Experience, Skills & Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in digital marketing
  • Proven planning, project management and budgeting skills.
  • Experience communicating professionally with internal and external groups at all levels and across multiple functions.
  • Proven success in delivering marketing strategies and programs
  • Experience with CRM and marketing automation tools (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot, Braze)
  • Strong understanding of customer journey mapping and multichannel engagement.
  • Ability to work autonomously but also lead cross-functional teams and manage complex projects.
  • Data-driven mindset with expertise in engagement metrics and conversion strategies.

Knowledge And Skills

  • Strong organizational and project management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging with a range of stakeholders.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment and work independently and collaboratively.
  • Flexibility to travel independently domestically or internationally.
  • Proficient in MS Office, social media, CRM, and able to learn new software quickly.
