THE OPPORTUNITY
Our client is looking for a talented, motivated, and experienced Technical Leader with full-stack and Devops engineering capabilities — augmented by a confident, productive AI development stack — to join our engineering team. You will be a force-multiplier across the entire product lifecycle, bridging the gap between product thinking and technical execution while raising the quality bar for the engineering team.
You will work closely with the Head of Product and the development team to shape platform architecture, drive delivery excellence, and ensure our systems remain scalable, secure, and maintainable as the company grows.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Technical Leadership & Architecture
- Own and evolve the core platform architecture, identifying opportunities for enhancement, optimization, and modernisation.
- Lead architectural discussions and present clear, evidence-based recommendations to the Head of Product.
- Evaluate trade-offs across performance, scalability, maintainability, and security — and communicate these clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Job Description
- Champion engineering best practices: coding standards, documentation, testing strategies, and CI/CD pipelines.
Product & Business Alignment
- Partner with the Head of Product to translate business requirements into technical solutions, proactively surfacing constraints and opportunities.
- Assist the Head of Product with technology capability assessments to solve compliance and identity verification of business problems.
- Provide realistic effort estimates and technical feasibility analysis for new features and initiatives.
- Contribute to product roadmap discussions, ensuring engineering complexity is properly represented.
Hands-On Engineering
- Write, review, and merge production-quality code across the full stack (Java backend, React.js frontend, PostgreSQL, AWS services).
- Conduct thorough pull request reviews, providing constructive, mentoring-focused feedback to grow the team.
- Build and maintain AWS infrastructure using CDK (Infrastructure as Code), including S3, SQS, Lambda, and API Gateway.
- Design and implement secure OAuth 2.0 / OIDC authentication and authorisation flows.
AI-Augmented Development
- Actively leverage Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, and emerging AI tooling to accelerate development and raise team productivity.
- Promote AI-assisted development practices within the team, establishing patterns and guidelines for responsible, effective use.
- Stay current with the evolving AI developer's tooling landscape and champion adoption where it adds genuine value.
Team Growth & Mentorship
- Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and psychological safety.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with the Head of Product on hiring and team capability building.
- Act as a technical point of escalation for complex engineering challenges.

WHAT YOU BRING
Essential Experience & Skills
- 6+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years in a technical lead or senior engineering role.
- Strong, demonstrable proficiency in Java (Spring Boot or equivalent modern framework).
- Production-grade React.js development experience, including state management and component architecture.
- Deep working knowledge of PostgreSQL — schema design, indexing strategies, and query performance tuning.
- Practical experience with AWS CDK for infrastructure as code, and hands-on use of SQS, S3, Lambda, and related services.
- Solid understanding of OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect, and modern identity/authorisation patterns.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, Docker containerisation, and DevOps culture and tooling.
- Active, confident user of AI development tools such as Claude Code and/or GitHub Copilot in day-to-day engineering.
- Proven ability to conduct high-quality pull request reviews that improve code quality and support team growth.
Highly Desirable
- Experience in RegTech, FinTech, or AML/CTF compliance domains.
- Exposure to event-driven architecture and asynchronous messaging patterns.
- Familiarity with OWASP security principles and secure-by-design software development.
- Experience working in a start-up or scale-up environment with a high degree of autonomy.
- Knowledge of identity verification or KYC/KYB processes and regulatory frameworks.
