The Role
As our Founding Engineer, youll own zero-to-one product and platform decisions, write a ton of production code, and put in place the engineering practices that define Atreans DNA. Youll ship quickly, talk to customers, and scale what works. If youre excited by ambiguous problems, data plumbing, and crafting delightful APIs, youll love this.
What youll do
- Design and build core services: data ingestion, normalization, matching, and real-time scoring.
- Create clean, well-documented APIs used by US fintechs and enterprise data teams.
- Own end-to-end features from product discovery and architecture to testing, observability, and deployment.
- Stand up a reliable data stack (streaming + batch), with strong SLAs and cost awareness.
- Set engineering standards (code quality, security, CI/CD, on-call) and influence the product roadmap.
- Work directly with customers to validate use cases and iterate quickly based on feedback.
- Help hire and mentor the next wave of engineers; grow into a VP/CTO track as we scale.
What youll bring
- 28+ years building production systems (were flexible for exceptional folks).
- Strength inat least twoof: backend (Node/TypeScript, Go, or Python), data engineering (Kafka/SQS, Airflow, Spark), storage (Postgres/OLAP/Snowflake), distributed systems, or API/platform engineering.
- Solid cloud fundamentals (AWS/GCP/Azure), containers (Docker/K8s), infra-as-code, monitoring, and testing.
- Product mindset: you care about customer outcomes, not just tickets.
- Strong fundamentals in algorithms, data modeling, and system design.
- Security and reliability instinctsespecially valuable in regulated environments (KYC/AML/PCI).
- Excellent written & verbal communication; comfortable collaborating across time zones.
Nice to have
- Experience in fintech/data products (payments, banking, credit, fraud/risk, identity).
- Familiarity with US data providers, processors, or compliance workflows.
- Prior early-stage or founding-team experience.
- Building SDKs/CLIs, developer documentation, or data contracts.
