Job Summary

The Fire Occupational Health & Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining comprehensive occupational health and safety programs for the Fire Department. The incumbent provides guidance and technical experience to ensure the safety and well-being of all department personnel during emergency and non-emergency operations. The position oversees occupational health and safety, assists in safety investigations, develops safety policies, issues bulletins, and serves as the department's liaison with external occupational health agencies. Work is performed independently under the direction of the Fire Chief and Deputy Chief and is reviewed through reports and results achieved.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Fire Science, Emergency Management, Public Health, or a closely related field and three (3) years of relevant experience in occupational health and safety, risk management, or fire service safety programs, emergency services, or high-risk operational environment; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Valid Florida Driver's License required.

Preferred Certifications

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Florida Health and Safety Officer (OHS)
  • Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM)
  • Occupational Health and Safety Trainer (OHST)
  • Training in Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Standards (29 CFR 1910.156)
