Job Description

Paid Internship Opportunity: Field Communications & Outreach Intern

Location: Bhopal (Work from Office + Field Visits)

Organisation: Chingari Trust, Bhopal

Duration: 3 months (with possibility of extension to full-time position)

About the Organisation:

Chingari Trust was founded in 2006 by two survivors of the Bhopal gas tragedy, Champa Devi Shukla and Rashida Bee, whose personal encounters with the tragedy deeply shaped the organisation's mission. Both women were recognised internationally for their sustained activism on behalf of gas-affected communities and jointly received the Goldman Environmental Award in 2004. They chose to dedicate the entire prize money to creating a long-term institution to support children with disabilities born into affected families.

Chingari Trust is a non-political, non-profit earning organisation that works for the rehabilitation of congenitally disabled children born in the families affected by the Bhopal Gas Tragedy and subsequent groundwater contamination. Specifically, it supports women and children living with the consequences of the tragedy, without discriminating on the basis of caste, creed or religion.

About the Role:

We are looking for a proactive and curious intern to support our work in Bhopal across fundraising, outreach, and communications. This is a hands-on role that involves both office-based work and regular field visits, offering exposure to on-ground program work as well as storytelling and documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the team in field visits to document program activities and community interactions
  • Capture photos and videos that reflect the organisation's work and impact
  • Assist in conducting basic interviews with beneficiaries, team members, and stakeholders
  • Help with documentation and content creation, including case studies, short write-ups, summaries, and reports, and contribute to building fundraising and communications collaterals.
  • Assist with social media engagement and basic content support
  • Support outreach and fundraising efforts through research and coordination tasks
  • Organise and maintain documentation, media files, and basic records

Who We're Looking For

  • Based in or willing to relocate to Bhopal for the duration of the internship, and comfortable with fieldwork and interacting with communities
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work, Communications, or related fields with a keen interest in the nonprofit/social impact space (freshers with relevant skills or experience are also encouraged to apply)
  • Comfortable with fieldwork and interacting with communities
  • Proficiency in Hindi is required to effectively engage with community members
  • Basic skills in photography and videography (a phone is sufficient); familiarity with professional cameras is a plus
  • Good communication and observation skills
  • Willingness to learn, take initiative, and adapt to different kinds of tasks

What You'll Gain

  • First-hand exposure to grassroots work and community engagement
  • Experience in documentation, storytelling, and outreach
  • Opportunity to work closely with a small, collaborative team
  • A practical understanding of how fundraising and communications support on-ground impact

Future Opportunities: Please note that responsibilities may evolve based on organisational needs, and the role may involve additional tasks beyond those listed above. This internship may lead to a full-time role based on performance, mutual fit, and organisational needs.
