Job Title: Field Clinical Specialist

Department: Commercial

Reports to: Field Clinical Manager, South Asia

Position Summary

The Field Clinical Specialist provides hands-on, field-based clinical and technical training and support for LivaNova's cardiopulmonary medical device portfolio. The role is accountable for delivering high-quality clinical education, procedural support, and technical expertise to healthcare professionals, ensuring safe and effective use of LivaNova's products across India.

The Field Clinical Specialist partners closely with physicians, perfusionists, hospital teams, distributors, and internal stakeholders to support product adoption, clinical excellence, and continuous improvement. All activities are performed in compliance with local regulations, Good Clinical Practices (GCP), and LivaNova's investigational and commercial strategies, while demonstrating the behaviours aligned to LivaNova's Human Imperatives and Strategic Framework.

Essential Job Functions

Clinical Case Support & Customer Engagement

  • Provide surgical case coverage, including in-theatre clinical support, follow-up, and troubleshooting of LivaNova cardiopulmonary products.
  • Represent LivaNova during surgeries and clinical procedures, ensuring professional and compliant support.
  • Deliver regular customer training and in-service education on LivaNova products, systems, and clinical applications.
  • Build strong, trust-based relationships with clinicians, perfusionists, and hospital stakeholders through consistent, high-quality support.

Clinical & Technical Expertise

  • Demonstrate in-depth expertise in cardiopulmonary devices, capital equipment, and associated troubleshooting techniques.
  • Provide on-site and remote technical support, including timely response to technical inquiries.
  • Support hospitals and clinical centers during commercial activities and clinical investigations, ensuring accurate documentation and compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Proactively monitor potential in-country clinical trial or registry opportunities in collaboration with internal teams.
  • Participate in journal clubs, advisory boards, and relevant clinical forums.
  • Provide on-call support for surgeries and urgent clinical needs as required.

Educational & Research Support

  • Educate and train physicians, perfusionists, and hospital personnel on LivaNova investigational and commercial products.
  • Regularly update clinicians on new product releases, features, and hardware/software enhancements.
  • Act as a clinical liaison between Research & Development and physicians to support beta testing and feasibility studies, including protocol support and site engagement.
  • Support preparation and submission of clinical research for presentations, publications, and scientific forums.
  • Stay current through scientific conferences, professional publications, workshops, and ongoing engagement with the clinical community.

Internal Collaboration & Organisational Support

  • Educate and train LivaNova employees, distributors, and partners on clinical and technical aspects of LivaNova products.
  • Maintain open, effective communication with Regulatory Affairs, Quality Assurance, Product Development, Sales, and Marketing teams.
  • Contribute to the creation and continuous improvement of training materials, technical documentation, instructions for use, and clinical education content.
  • Support marketing initiatives by contributing to scientific and clinical content development.
  • Identify, build, and sustain strong relationships with Key Opinion Leaders (KOLs).
  • Support Field Safety Notices or Recall activities in collaboration with Regulatory and Quality teams

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong ability to communicate effectively with healthcare professionals and hospital stakeholders.
  • Proven capability to educate, coach, and influence without direct authority.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, professional presence, and clinical credibility.
  • Effective problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in high-pressure clinical environments.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including PowerPoint.
  • High level of accountability, preparation, and attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of operating room protocols, asepsis, and sterile practices.
  • Proficiency in English.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a healthcare-related field or a four-year degree with relevant clinical experience.
  • Advanced degree in health sciences or engineering preferred.
  • Minimum 5+ years of experience as a Field Clinical Engineer, Clinical Specialist, Technical Representative, or Clinical Trainer within the medical device industry.
  • Demonstrated experience working in the operating theatre is required.
  • Perfusionist qualification is essential for this role.
