Job Title

Field Agri Officer – Pulses (Pigeon Pea/Tur) | Maharashtra & Karnataka

Location

Latur, Wardha and Gulbarga, with frequent travel to villages/Mandis.

About The Role

The Field Agri Officer will generate reliable, on‑ground intelligence data on pigeon pea (tur) and other pulses.

  • Acreage & Crop condition tracking,
  • Harvest & Arrivals monitoring,
  • Respective and nearby Mandi price and
  • Quality insights of arrivals,
  • Engagement with farmer/FPO with traceability documentation to support sourcing decisions and risk management (yield, quality, and supply disruptions).

Reporting Line

Reports to: Manager (Pulses)

Key Responsibilities

  • Crop Intelligence & Field Data Collection (Pulses)
  • Conduct structured field visits to track sowing progress, acreage estimates, crop stage & vigor, pest/disease incidence, input usage, and harvest timelines (with photos).
  • Execute crop cut experiments and yield sampling protocols; validate farmer‑reported yields with triangulation (plots, local Agri officers, input dealers).
  • Maintain weekly dashboards of village‑wise acreage, visual crop health observations, phenology stage (e.g., branching/flowering/podding), and expected arrivals window.
  • Market & Mandi Intelligence
  • Track and report daily/weekly mandi prices, arrivals, grade mix, moisture/defects trends and trader sentiment across APMCs and private yards.
  • Map FPOs, aggregators, primary processors, and local traders; assess capabilities (cleaning, sorting, drying) and reliability.
  • Provide short notes & alerts on supply shocks (weather, logistics), price spikes/pressure and arbitrage opportunities across nearby markets.
  • Quality, Sampling & Traceability
  • Collect representative samples from farms/FPOs/mandis; document moisture, foreign matter, damaged/weevilled, and size/color attributes per SOP.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Relationship Building
  • Build trust with farmers, FPOs, input dealers, and APMCs.
  • Facilitate farmer/FPO onboarding (documentation, basic quality training).
  • Organize small pre‑harvest and harvest‑stage meetings on quality practices (e.g., timely harvest, drying to target moisture, avoiding admixtures).
  • Reporting & Documentation
  • Submit weekly field intelligence reports with photos, GPS pins, and dashboards (district → taluka → village).
  • Maintain price & arrivals logs, visit minutes, quality test sheets, and risk flags.
  • Support monthly and season‑end reviews with compiled insights, accuracy metrics, and recommendations.
  • Compliance, Ethics & Safety
  • Adhere to company Code of Conduct: no inducements, maintain data privacy, fair treatment of all stakeholders.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture/Agronomy/Rural Management or related.
  • Candidates with diplomas plus strong field experience may be considered.

Experience

  • 2–5 years in Agri field operations in pulses/cereals/oilseeds (farmer outreach, FPO liaison, mandi operations, or procurement support).
  • Hands‑on experience with sampling, moisture testing, and Mandi/FPO interfaces preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Domain: Basic agronomy of pulses (esp. pigeon pea), crop calendars, pests/diseases (e.g., pod borers), and post‑harvest handling.
  • Data: Accurate data capture (mobile apps/Excel/Google Sheets), GPS tagging, photo documentation, and basic dashboarding.
  • Market: Understanding of APMC operations, e‑NAM basics, FPO procurement, and local trade practices.
  • Communication: Fluency in Marathi and/or Kannada, working Hindi, and basic English for reporting.
  • Soft skills: Field relationship building, observation rigor, integrity, problem solving, and time management.
  • Tools: Smartphone, moisture meter, sampling spear/scoop, weighing scale, sealable sample bags, GPS-enabled camera; familiarity with WhatsApp reporting, Excel.

Other Requirements

  • Valid two‑wheeler and license; willingness to travel 75–80% of the time.
  • Comfort with rural field conditions and seasonal workloads (peak harvest).

    • On‑time weekly report submission with complete datasets and geotagged evidence.

    • Acreage & yield estimates ±10–15% of validated outcomes.
    • Actionable alerts raised before key market moves/harvest pivots.

    • Sampling SOP adherence ≥ 98% (chain-of-custody, labeling).
