Job Description

Role: Engineer Supplier Quality Mechanical - Fabrication commodity

Location: Ather's Corporate office -Bangalore & Ather's Factory -Hosur

Reporting to: Group Lead SQA / Lead SQA

Team Name: Supplier Quality under Quality vertical

About The Team And The Role

The Quality & Supplier Quality team at Ather is responsible for monitoring and continuously improving supplier performance metrics like PPM, NCRs, and Straight Pass Ratio to ensure world-class fabrication quality.

This role is for a Supplier Quality Engineer focused on the fabrication commodity, driving process reviews, APQP, and PPAP executions to mitigate manufacturing risks before mass production.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor key supplier quality metrics such as Defective Parts Per Million (PPM), Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs), and Straight Pass Ratio (SPR) for fabrication parts.
  • Lead supplier improvement initiatives, managing non-conformities, supplier internal rejections, and enhancing the overall First Pass Ratio.
  • Record quality issues (bugs) and deviations, ensuring timely implementation of containment plans, Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and CAPA.
  • Drive advanced quality processes including APQP, Design for Manufacturing (DFM), and Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) for all new or changed fabrication parts.
  • Review engineering drawings, Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) requirements, and supplier PFMEAs to mitigate production risks.
  • Evaluate and approve supplier measurement systems, CMM programs, check fixtures, and tooling capabilities for critical-to-quality dimensions.
  • Manage scheduled preventive maintenance programs and line-setup restorations for fabrication equipment at supplier locations.
  • Collaborate closely with Manufacturing Engineering, Supplier Management, and Design Engineering teams to ensure exceptional build quality.

Experience And Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Engineering (B.E) or Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) with specialization in Automobile or Mechanical Engineering
  • 7 to 10 years of relevant experience in Supplier Quality focusing specifically on fabrication parts

Must Have Competencies

  • Understanding of process design and manufacturing quality standards for automotive fabrication parts, including tubular and sheet metal structures
  • Application of structured problem-solving methodologies using 8D and 7QC tools
  • Execution of core supplier quality frameworks including APQP and PPAP
  • Analysis of engineering designs using DFM, DFA, and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA)

Good to Have Competencies

  • Interpretation of engineering drawings and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) specifications
  • Calibration and validation of supplier measurement systems, checking fixtures, and Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) setups
  • Management of preventive maintenance programs and line-setup restorations for supplier fabrication machinery
  • Cross-functional alignment between design engineering and supplier manufacturing setups
