Job Purpose

Our Digital Transformation Team is a pioneering unit functioning like a start-up within the company with a strong business case to curate these capabilities in Pune, India. We aim to transition 10 billion in revenue through digital channels and accelerate growth through next-generation platforms such as Web 2.0, Lead Management, CRM 2.0, eCommerce, and Order Management. This team combines platform innovation, product design and delivery, process redesign, advanced analytics and human adoption to deliver measurable impact at scale.

Joining the Digital Transformation team would place you at the heart of driving commercial digital excellence and strategic initiatives. Building and implementing scalable digital capabilities and products that power AkzoNobel's global digital transformation on the path to profitable growth.

The Product Owner (Build) is responsible for maximizing the value of the product backlog for assigned digital products or capabilities. The role focuses on translating the product vision and roadmap defined by the Lead Product Owner into clear, actionable backlog items and ensuring timely, high-quality delivery by the development team.

Key Accountabilities

Ownership

  • Own and prioritize the product backlog in alignment with the roadmap and priorities set by the Lead Product Owner
  • Ensure backlog items are clearly defined, refined and ready for development
  • Balance business value, technical feasibility and delivery capacity in day-to-day prioritization

Requirements & Refinement

  • Translate business requirements into user stories with clear acceptance criteria
  • Collaborate with digital leads, UX, vendors, technical teams to understand scope and feasibility
  • Ensure a shared understanding within the delivery team

Delivery & Sprint Execution

  • Define sprint goals and support the team during sprint execution
  • Accept completed work based on agreed acceptance criteria
  • Ensure transparency on progress, risks and impediments

Quality & Non-Functional Requirements

  • Ensure non-functional requirements are captured in the backlog
  • Validate that delivered solutions meet enterprise standards and guidelines
  • Identify delivery risks when needed

Stakeholder Alignment

  • Act as the primary point of contact for business stakeholders for assigned backlog items
  • Align expectations and clarify priorities with stakeholders on an ongoing basis
  • Escalate conflicts or dependency issues

Release & Adoption Support

  • Support release preparation activities, including user acceptance testing
  • Ensure required documentation and user guidance is available
  • Support adoption by clarifying functionality and expected benefits to users and/or PO Adoption

Education

  • 7-10 years of experience as a Product Owner or in a similar product leadership role within global organizations or start-up/high-growth environments
  • Proven track record of owning and delivering complex digital products and capabilities on a scale, from concept to adoption
  • Strong strategic thinking and business acumen, with ability to connect product decisions to commercial outcomes
  • Deep understanding of digital ecosystems, including CMS, CRM, eCommerce platforms, APIs, and third-party integrations
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams, influence stakeholders, and manage dependencies across multiple streams
  • Experience in prioritization frameworks and data-driven decision-making for roadmap planning.
  • Familiarity with agile methodologies and tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Azure DevOps
  • Technical fluency to engage confidently with engineering teams on architecture, integrations, and non-functional requirements
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills, including experience presenting to senior leadership
  • Strong analytical mindset with ability to leverage insights for continuous improvement and measurable impact
