Design Engineer- Job description

Key Responsibilities

• Design mechanical components, jigs, fixtures, and tooling for machining processes
• Prepare 2D drawings and 3D models using CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo)
• Ensure designs are manufacturable using CNC, VMC, and conventional machining methods
• Work closely with production, quality, and CNC programmers to optimize designs
• Perform tolerance analysis (GD&T) and material selection
• Modify designs based on shop floor feedback and performance issues
• Develop process sheets, BOMs (Bill of Materials), and technical documentation
• Support troubleshooting of machining issues and suggest design improvements
• Ensure compliance with industry standards and safety guidelines

Required Skills

Technical Skills:

• Strong knowledge of machining processes (turning, milling, drilling, grinding)
• Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks / Creo / AutoCAD)
• Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing)
• Knowledge of materials (metals, alloys, heat treatment)
• Basic understanding of CNC programming (G-code) is a plus
• Familiarity with CAM software is an advantage

• Strong communication with shop floor teams
• Attention to detail
• Ability to manage multiple projects

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or related field
• 1–5 years experience in machine shop or manufacturing environment (varies by role level)

Preferred Experience

• Experience in CNC/VMC machining environments
• Exposure to fixture design and tool design
• Knowledge of lean manufacturing or process optimization
