Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Control Systems Engineer to join our R&D team focused on developing next-generation Artificial Pancreas (AP) systems specifically tailored for the complexities of Type 2 Diabetes (T2D) management. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the entire control loop lifecycle, including advanced physiological modeling, robust control algorithm design, and state estimation techniques to accurately predict and manage blood glucose levels in T2D patients. This is a unique opportunity to apply sophisticated engineering principles to a critical healthcare challenge.

Physiological Modeling:

  • Develop, calibrate, and validate mathematical models of glucose-insulin dynamics, focusing specifically on the unique characteristics of T2D, such as insulin resistance, delayed insulin action, and the impact of glucagon and incretin hormones.
  • Integrate models of continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) and insulin delivery devices (e.g., insulin pumps).
  • Perform parameter identification using clinical and preclinical data.

*

Control Algorithm Design:

  • Design, implement, and rigorously test advanced control algorithms (e.g., Model Predictive Control (MPC), adaptive control) to optimize blood glucose control, minimize hypo/hyperglycemic excursions, and ensure patient safety.
  • Tailor algorithms to accommodate meal disturbances, exercise, stress, and variability in insulin sensitivity unique to T2D.

Simulation and Testing:

  • Develop and maintain high-fidelity in-silico simulators for rapid prototyping, testing, and closed-loop performance evaluation prior to human trials.
  • Plan and execute preclinical and clinical testing protocols in collaboration with clinical scientists and regulatory teams.

Software Implementation:

  • Implement control and estimation algorithms in high-performance, real-time embedded software suitable for medical device deployment.
  • Ensure all control software meets stringent medical device regulatory and safety standards.
