Job Description

Chief Executive Officer | The Language SKOOL Remote-first | Pan-India | Full-time CTC: 36 – 48 LPA | Commensurate with experience

We're looking for our next CEO and this might be the most important hire The Language SKOOL has ever made.

At TLS, we've built something real. 600+ people. Thousands of learners whose lives we've changed , students, working professionals, and families navigating new futures through the power of language. We've done it remotely, at scale, and with heart.

Now we're ready for our next chapter. And we need a leader to take us there.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Vision and Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and drive the long-term vision, mission, and strategic direction of TLS in alignment with the Founder and Board
  • Define annual and multi-year business plans, growth objectives, and key priorities
  • Identify new market opportunities, revenue streams, and strategic partnerships to accelerate growth
  • Anticipate industry trends and competitive shifts; position TLS ahead of the curve

Business Growth and P&L Ownership

  • Take full accountability for the company's financial performance — revenue, EBITDA, and profitability
  • Set and achieve sales targets in collaboration with the Sales and Marketing leadership
  • Lead investment decisions, pricing strategy, and capital allocation
  • Present financial performance, forecasts, and strategic plans to the Board and Founder

Governance, Compliance, and Board Management

  • Report to the Executive Chairman (Founder) and Board; ensure timely, transparent, and high-quality information flow
  • Ensure full statutory, regulatory, and legal compliance across all states of operation
  • Establish and uphold strong corporate governance frameworks, internal controls, and audit readiness
  • Manage relationships with investors, legal advisors, and external stakeholders at the principal level

Organisational Leadership and Culture

  • Build, lead, and inspire a senior leadership team capable of executing at scale
  • Cultivate and protect TLS's organisational culture, values, and people philosophy across a 600+ remote workforce
  • Drive employee motivation, engagement, and a high-performance work environment
  • Approve and oversee senior management appointments, succession plans, and leadership development

Operational Oversight

  • Oversee day-to-day business operations through functional heads — Sales, Marketing, Technology, HR, Finance, and Operations
  • Review operational metrics, KPIs, and OKRs regularly; course-correct with speed and decisiveness
  • Champion process efficiency, scalability, and quality across all departments
  • Ensure the organisation is neither overstaffed nor under-resourced at any point in its growth

External Representation and Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as the primary external face of TLS — industry forums, media, government bodies, and key partnerships
  • Build and nurture relationships with strategic partners, institutional clients, and community stakeholders
  • Represent TLS's social mission — language access, employability, and immigration support — with authenticity and credibility

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Experience and Qualifications

  • 25+ years of progressive leadership experience, with at least 8-10 years as CEO, MD, or equivalent with full P&L ownership
  • MBA from a premier institution (IIM, ISB, XLRI, or equivalent) strongly preferred
  • Proven experience leading organisations of 500+ employees, preferably in a remote or distributed model
  • Background in ed-tech, test prep, e-learning, or consumer internet highly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate an organisation through simultaneous growth, profitability focus, and restructuring

What Will Set You Apart

  • You have built and led high-performing senior leadership teams from scratch
  • You respect what founders build — and know how to carry that legacy forward, not override it
  • You are as comfortable presenting to a Board as you are walking the floor with your team
  • You make decisions with speed, data, and conviction — and own the outcomes
  • You see compliance and governance not as a burden but as a foundation for sustainable growth

WHAT MAKES THIS ROLE DIFFERENT

Our Founder isn't disappearing. They're stepping into the role of Executive Chairman — setting vision, protecting culture, and opening doors. You'll have a true thought partner at the top, not a backseat driver.

This is a rare chance to lead a profitable, purpose-driven organisation with a strong brand, a loyal learner base, and serious runway ahead.
