Why This Role Exists

India's defence technology sector is expanding rapidly, and Zen Technologies is actively pursuing a global presence. The absence of dedicated international business development leadership limits Zen's ability to capitalize on export opportunities and establish strong footholds in key foreign markets. Without this role, international sales growth, strategic partnerships, and government engagement are slower and fragmented.

This position will bridge that gap by developing and executing Zen's international business strategy, engaging directly with foreign defence stakeholders, and ensuring timely identification and conversion of export opportunities. The right person will strengthen Zen's global credibility and drive sustainable international revenue growth.

The Role

The Business Development Manager – International owns the end-to-end international business development function for Zen. This includes market scouting, relationship management with foreign governments and defence agencies, and export operations execution. Their accountability begins with identifying export opportunities and extends through contract execution, partnership formation, and market penetration in target regions.

They have authority over international BD strategies, customer engagement plans, and export operations, but work collaboratively with internal product, legal, and compliance teams to ensure regulatory adherence.

Key Responsibilities

International Business Development

  • Identify and secure new business opportunities for Zen products in target international markets.
  • Engage with key decision-makers, ensuring consistent follow-ups and in-person engagements.
  • Collaborate with Indian and foreign Defence Attachés to leverage strategic opportunities.
  • Develop partnerships with foreign defence agencies, OEMs, and key stakeholders.

Market Intelligence & Competitive Analysis

  • Conduct comprehensive competitor analysis, including pricing trends and product strategies.
  • Monitor market developments, risks, and opportunities across international defence sectors.
  • Provide actionable insights for strategy refinement and export prioritization.

Customer Engagement & Representation

  • Conduct site visits, product presentations, and liaison with international channel partners.
  • Represent Zen at global defence forums, trade shows, and exhibitions organized by SIDM, DDP, FICCI, CII, ASOCHAM, etc.
  • Coordinate visits of foreign delegations to Zen facilities and arrange high-level meetings.

Export Operations Management

  • Oversee the execution of export contracts, ensuring compliance with international regulations.
  • Optimize export processes, documentation, and logistics to support timely delivery.

Team & Organisation Building

  • Build and develop the international business development team.
  • Develop leadership layers below this role to institutionalize capabilities.
  • Foster a culture of target achievement, strategic collaboration, and operational excellence.

What We Are Looking For

Background & Experience

  • MBA/PGDM in Marketing or International Business; additional certifications in international trade, business strategy, or defence procurement preferred.
  • 10–15 years in International Business Development, with at least 5 years in the defence sector.
  • Proven experience in global business strategy, contract negotiation, and high-value deal structuring.
  • Strong understanding of government and defence procurement processes in international markets.
  • Experience managing export operations, cross-border partnerships, and multi-stakeholder engagements.
