Your impact
BIM Coordinator (Transportation) will be the primary contact for all BIM-related activities on transportation projects, ensuring effective coordination and digital delivery across disciplines. This role requires strong knowledge of ISO 19650 and infrastructure-specific standards, with responsibility for implementing BIM processes on assets such as roads, rail, bridges, and stations.
You will oversee model production, QA/QC, and federated coordination, while managing CDEs, Information Delivery Plans, and structured asset data for handover. The role also involves supporting technology and content management, safeguarding Jacobs intellectual property, and fostering collaboration across geographies to maximize integrated delivery.
Role & Responsibilities
- Supervise BIM model production for transportation assets (roads, rail, bridges, stations), ensuring accurate implementation of project information, proper documentation, and effective communication with Design and Engineering Teams.
- Ensure model delivery in accordance with the agreed Level of Information Need (LOIN)/Level of Development (LOD), with emphasis on civil infrastructure elements and linear assets.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including civil, structural, geotechnical, traffic, and utilities to ensure seamless integration of BIM processes across transportation projects.
- Review BIM models and execute QA/QC for compliance with Client requirements, project QA/QC procedures, and transportation-specific standards (e.g., IFC for infrastructure, COBie for asset handover).
- Assist BIM Manager in preparing BEP, Scope Clarification, Capability/Capacity Assessments, information production methods & procedures, and project information protocol, maintaining these during project delivery.
- Establish and maintain CDE in accordance with ISO 19650 standards to ensure secure, structured, and collaborative data exchange across multiple transportation stakeholders.
- Prepare and manage Information Delivery Plan (MIDP/TIDP) tailored for transportation projects, ensuring timely information delivery aligned with construction sequencing and asset management needs.
- Develop Technical Verification Plan/QA plan templates for workflow automation in CDE, focusing on infrastructure-specific review and approval processes.
- Host and lead BIM coordination meetings (internal and external), prepare, create, and maintain Federated Models integrating civil, structural, architectural, and systems models.
- Evaluate and test BIM technologies and workflows required by transportation projects and ISO 19650, including GIS integration, linear asset modeling, and 4D/5D BIM.
- Identify efficiency opportunities in transportation BIM workflows (e.g., automation of alignments, parametric modeling of bridges) and implement improvements.
- Provide staff training on infrastructure-specific BIM tools (Civil 3D, Revit, Navisworks, Revizto, ACC(Forma), PW) to enhance knowledge and expertise.
- Prepare clash detection matrix, perform clash detection, manage clash resolution, and document issues across disciplines (civil vs. utilities, structures vs. systems, etc).
- Compile and manage COBie spreadsheets ensuring accurate and standardized delivery of asset data for facilities management, operations, and handover of transportation assets.
- Generate reports and visualizations to support project planning, construction phasing, and stakeholder communication using tools like Power BI / Tableau.
Here's what you'll need
- Bachelor's or master's degree in architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- 6 to 8 years of hands-on experience in Building Information Modeling (BIM), digital delivery, or related domains with Transportation.
- Proven track record of successfully leading BIM implementation on large-scale and technically complex projects.
- Professional certifications in BIM (e.g., Autodesk/Bentley Certified Professional, ISO 19650) are highly desirable.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong understanding of AEC industry design and construction workflows.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills.
- Strong understanding of ISO 19650 and other BIM-related standards.
Good To Have Skills
- Familiarity with digital twin technologies and smart infrastructure.
- Experience with 4D/5D BIM (time and cost integration).
