Designation: Associate Agronomist
Team: Collective Design & Support (CDS)
Location: Beforest Hyderabad Head Office (20–25%); All Collectives (75–80%)
Working Days: Full-time, on-site, 6 days per week
CTC Range: ₹45,000–₹60,000 per month
Role Overview
The Associate Agronomist will be a core member of the Collective Design & Support (CDS)
team, anchoring the research, site assessment and agronomy design functions across
Beforest's landscapes. The role involves deep field-based investigation into soil, water,
vegetation and cropping systems, followed by translating those insights into regenerative
land-use design and implementation strategies.
This person will design and execute field research, conduct seasonal audits, use app-based
monitoring systems and by analysis help close the feedback loop between data, design and
practice.
They will also play a key role in training and workshops, helping internal teams and
communities interpret agronomic systems as living, evolving parts of landscape design.
Skills and Experience
● Master's degree (or equivalent) in Agronomy, Soil Science, Agricultural Engineering or
related disciplines.
● 4–5 years of experience in applied agronomy, soil and water management or bio-
input systems.
● Demonstrated expertise in field research design, site assessment and data-driven
analysis.
● Strong understanding of soil health management, water-use efficiency and plant–
soil interactions.
● Proven ability to plan and conduct seasonal and annual soil, water and vegetation
audits.
● Experience in designing and managing field trials and demonstration plots for diverse
crops/agroforestry and agroecological contexts.
● Familiarity with app-based monitoring systems for data capture and visualization.
● Knowledge of climate-responsive design, agroforestry and regenerative farming
techniques.
● Comfortable synthesizing data into design recommendations and actionable insights.
Attributes
● A researcher's curiosity blended with a designer's eye for practical solutions.
● Field-ready, detail-oriented and methodical in data collection and analysis.
● Systems thinker who connects agronomic research with larger ecological and
community goals.
● Collaborative and communicative, able to engage field teams and communities.
● Physically fit and enthusiastic about long days in varied terrain.
Key Responsibilities
1. Research & Site Assessment
● Lead comprehensive site assessments across Beforest collectives, covering soil
health, hydrology and vegetation structure.
● Design and execute field research studies on crop performance, soil amendments and
bio-input efficacy.
● Use field data to generate baseline studies and design inputs for master plans.
● Develop research protocols for comparing treatments (e.g., compost, microbial inputs,
mulching, intercropping).
● Ensure assessments integrate climate, geography, culture and community practices
for each landscape.
2. Monitoring and Audits
● Set up app-based monitoring systems to track water, soil and vegetation parameters
across seasons.
● Conduct yearly and seasonal audits to measure ecological performance and inform
adaptive management.
● Analyze monitoring data to identify patterns, gaps and opportunities for system
improvement.
3. Design Integration
● Work with CDS designers to convert research findings and audit data into design and
management recommendations.
● Contribute to functional zoning, water systems design and soil restoration plans.
● Support pilot projects and evaluate their scalability across other Beforest landscapes.
4. Knowledge Sharing & Workshops
● Develop training modules and co-facilitate workshops for internal and external
participants.
● Build a repository of agronomic learnings, field protocols, and visual guides.
● Support documentation for member communication, MEL frameworks and knowledge
loops.
5. Reporting & Collaboration
● Maintain research logs, visual summaries and technical briefs for the CDS team.
● Collaborate with ecology and biodiversity teammates to integrate agronomy within larger
landscape restoration goals.
● Contribute data and insights to Beforest's long-term Monitoring–Evaluation–Learning
(MEL) system.
Growth Path
Opportunity to evolve into Lead Agronomist, spearheading research-based design strategy
across multiple landscapes.
