Assistant General Manager, Engineering

Location: GIDC, Surat, India

Job Responsibilities of AGM Engineering:

  • Facilitate and manage project design activities, AutoCAD drawings, and engineering documentation in compliance with applicable standards and guidelines during both project execution and operational phases.
  • Lead project design initiatives and coordinate with cross-functional departments to collect technical inputs, ensuring timely project completion within approved budgets.
  • Review, implement, and ensure effective closure of engineering changes, including Change Controls, Deviations, and CAPAs.
  • Review and approve equipment and system qualification protocols and reports (DQ, IQ, OQ, PQ) in line with regulatory, quality, and organizational requirements.
  • Review, approve, and ensure effective implementation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs related to engineering, maintenance, and project management activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and training to team members, ensuring adherence to approved training plans, schedules, and proper documentation.
  • Manage and support internal and external audits, including ISO, OHSAS/ISO 45001, regulatory, customer, and government audits, and ensure timely implementation and closure of CAPAs.
  • Oversee the issuance and control of work permits in accordance with approved safety procedures and statutory requirements.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of project drawings, layouts, and documentation; maintain MIS and drive continuous improvement in project execution and delivery.
  • Participate actively in project review meetings and collaborate closely with the plant maintenance team to gain practical on-ground operational insights.
  • Drive EHS compliance through daily monitoring, employee engagement, and regular safety training programs to achieve and sustain a zero-incident workplace.

Authorities:

  • Approval for engineering concerns, design changes, any kind of modification, and revisions in line with organizational, regulatory, and project requirements.
  • Authorize for issuance of world permits in coordination with approved safety protocols and statutory guidelines.
  • Review and sign-off on engineering documentation, including design documents, qualification protocols and reports (DQ, IQ, OQ, PQ), SOPs, and related records.
  • Recombination, approval, and implementation of technical improvements, preventive actions, and corrective actions to enhance safety, quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Coordinate and negotiate with vendors, contractors, consultants, service providers to ensure timely and effective delivery of project requirements.
  • Lead and guide cross-functional project teams, allocate resources, and prioritize activities to ensure optimal and timely project execution.
  • Coordinate and communicate with top management and Directors on project status, operational performance, compliance matters, and strategic initiatives.

Technical Skills:

  • Comprehensive understanding of engineering drawing standards, design review processes, and technical documentation control systems.
  • In-depth knowledge of equipment, system qualification processes (DQ, IQ, OQ, PQ) and validation requirements.
  • Proficiency in Change Control, Deviation Management, Risk Assessment, and CAPA processes.
  • Sound knowledge of ISO standards, including ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and other applicable regulatory and statutory requirements in manufacturing environments.
  • Demonstrated project management capabilities, including project planning, scheduling, budgeting, cost control, and resource optimization.
  • Experience in plant maintenance management, breakdown analysis, preventive and predictive maintenance practices, and equipment lifecycle management.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and optimize mechanical and utility systems to enhance manufacturing efficiency and reliability.
  • Working knowledge of utilities and infrastructure systems such as HVAC, electrical systems, compressed air, water systems, effluent treatment plants (ETP), and fire protection systems.
  • Understanding of safety engineering principles, hazard identification (HIRA), risk mitigation, and implementation of safe systems of work.
  • Familiarity with statutory compliance related to factories, boilers, pressure vessels, lifting tools and tackles, and environmental regulations.
  • Experience in vendor technical evaluation, FAT/SAT activities, commissioning, and performance monitoring.
  • Ability to analyze MIS data, KPIs, and performance metrics to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
