Job Description

Position: Accounts and Administration Officer

Location: CEE South, Bengaluru

Reporting to: Programme Director, CEE South

About Centre for Environment Education (CEE)

The Centre for Environment Education (CEE) is a national institution established in 1984 as a Centre of Excellence under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India. CEE works to enhance public awareness and understanding of environmental and sustainability issues through education, research, and action-oriented programmes. CEE South, the southern regional office of CEE, implements programmes across southern India, focusing on environmental education, climate action, research, and policy engagement through multi-stakeholder partnerships.

Role Overview

The Accounts and Administration Officer will be responsible for managing financial systems, ensuring statutory compliance, supporting programme finance, and overseeing administrative operations. The role requires strong financial discipline, attention to compliance frameworks, and the ability to coordinate across programme teams and external stakeholders.

Key ResponsibilitiesA. Accounts & Finance
  • Maintain books of accounts and supporting documentation in a timely and accurate manner
  • Prepare periodic MIS reports in coordination with Programme Management Support Unit (PMSU)
  • Support programme budgeting, financial tracking, and grant management
  • Review and finalize journal entries, trial balances, and Income & Expenditure statements
  • Assist in preparation of financial statements, including Balance Sheet
  • Provide financial data analysis and documentation for donor reporting and partner engagements
  • Address finance-related queries from funding agencies and stakeholders
B. Compliance & Audit
  • Ensure adherence to statutory requirements including FCRA, Income Tax, GST, TDS, PF, etc.
  • Manage internal, statutory, project, and C&AG audits, including timely compliance with observations
  • Maintain liaison with auditors, tax consultants, and regulatory authorities
  • Strengthen and periodically update financial systems, processes, and internal controls
C. Systems & Financial Operations
  • Manage and operate accounting systems (Tally/ERP)
  • Monitor programme bank accounts, fund flows, grant receipts, and recoveries
  • Support development and implementation of financial procedures and controls
D. Administration & Operations
  • Oversee administrative and logistical arrangements for meetings, workshops, and events
  • Manage travel arrangements for internal and external stakeholders
  • Ensure availability and procurement of office supplies, equipment, and services
  • Maintain vendor contracts (rent, utilities, internet, etc.) and ensure timely renewals and payments
  • Manage office filing systems and digital records (including Google Drive repositories)
  • Handle procurement processes in compliance with organizational and donor guidelines
E. Asset & Inventory Management
  • Maintain and update fixed asset registers and inventory records
  • Ensure asset safekeeping, including insurance coverage where applicable
  • Monitor stock levels and ensure timely updates
F. General Responsibilities
  • Coordinate closely with Programme Directors and project teams on financial and administrative matters
  • Support cross-functional requirements of projects and institutional operations
  • Perform any additional responsibilities as required by the organization
Minimum Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Commerce (B.Com / M.Com)
  • Relevant experience in institutional accounting and financial management
  • Hands-on experience with Tally/ERP systems
  • Prior experience in NGO/CSR/government project accounting will be an advantage

Language Requirements
  • Proficiency in English and Hindi is mandatory
  • Knowledge of Kannada or any other South Indian language is desirable
